Hope you all had fun as we traveled to New Orleans last week and talked about the beginnings of jazz. I certainly did!

In Session 2 we will talk about:

n Transition from Trad Jazz to Big Band

n Performance practices

n In-depth look at tunes by Fletcher Henderson and Count Basie

n Important figures

n Lots of listening – Christy will send list (see above)

n Cultural implications of Swing Era

n Timeline of what is happening in jazz and the world at large

Let’s pretend we are going to a swing concert (1935-1945) and dress up! Like a college student going to do the Lindy Hop or Jitterbug or dress like you are a performer on stage.
