Voices of the Past Candlelight Tour

Two Johnson Houses, Two Consecutive Nights

Friday, Sept 22 @ 7:00 pm  @  Old Fort Johnson

Saturday, Sept 23 @ 7:00 pm  @  Johnson Hall

Old Fort Johnson’s archives-based candlelight evening tour returns on two consecutive nights in a special partnership with Johnson Hall State Historic Site. On September 22-23, visitors can tour the two historic homes built locally by Sir William Johnson, Baronet of New York. Each night will feature a special guided evening tour of one of Sir William's houses, with readings from historical accounts staged in different rooms.

Friday night’s tours will be held at Old Fort Johnson (built 1749) and include readings from the French & Indian War years when that house was fortified with British soldiers and the valley was under attack by the French.

Saturday night’s tours will be held at Johnson Hall State Historic Site (built 1763) and features readings from the years 1763-1774 when Sir William Johnson moved Indian councils to his new home in Johnstown.

Tour groups are limited in size and leave every half-hour from 7:00-8:30 pm from each site’s Visitor Center. Admission is $5.00 per person each night.  Reservations are not required. Tours will be given on a first come, first served basis. Admission proceeds will go to preservation projects at the individual Johnson sites.

Friday, Sept 22 at Old Fort Johnson   (Route 5 @ Mergner Road, Fort Johnson)

Saturday Sept 23 at Johnson Hall State Historic Site   (139 Hall Avenue, Johnstown)
