About
My name is Olakunle Jaiyesimi and I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Extavour Lab, Harvard University, Cambridge, U.S.A..
Previously, I did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Garg Lab, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, U.S.A..
Before this, I completed a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto, University of Sao Paulo, Brasil.
Academics
I am a Pharmacist and completed a Master's degree in Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. Here, I investigated bioactive plant materials for metabolites with potential to prevent hyperglycemia and the progression of prediabetes to diabetes.
In 2016, I moved to Brasil where I studied natural products chemistry with metabolomics tools at Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto, University of Sao Paulo, Brasil. Here, I deployed metabolomics to unraveling bioactive metabolites from Brasilian and Nigerian Asteraceae plants with the potential to prevent hyperglycemia and improve glucose uptake.
I subsequently moved to the United States in 2019 where I embarked on a Postdoctoral journey at the Garg Lab, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, U.S.A. to study host-microbe interactions, which provide insights into the impacts of the microbiome on host metabolism.
Currently at the Extavour Lab, Harvard University, Cambridge, U.S.A., I am utilizing the Drosophila model to study the impact of environmental factors on host behavior/phenotype, particularly through the prism of their metabolome.
I am passionate about metabolism, how understanding it impacts host health and disease and about giving talks and teaching metabolomics and metabolism to an audience excited to know how body interacts with the small molecules they interact with.
Beyond Academics
Outside of academics, I like to write poetry and blog articles.
I consider myself a scientist with a creative mind. Essentially, a human!
I use artificial intelligence to express my creativity.
I look at the world...I mean, the world looks at me with a beautiful perspective. However rotten, harsh or stressful, the beauties are more abundant.
Just take a look...
I also have a podcast as a platform to put out my thoughts on SCIENCE and ARTS.
