On a stormy night, a strange little man, reeking of ale and slurring his words, stumbled into the encampments of three warbands—the Sky City Dwarves, a ravenous horde of Ratmen, and a chilling Undead Legion led by Vampires and Ghostly Undead. He raved about someone trying to steal his gold, promised half of it to anyone who protected it, muttered something about a rainbow, and promptly passed out face-first.
By morning, he had vanished without a trace, but a brilliant rainbow had erupted over the horizon, marking the battlefield. The promise of hidden treasure was too great to resist, and now, the armies marched—not just for gold, but for dominance.
As the skies cleared and the battlefield took shape, all three forces advanced cautiously, positioning themselves for the inevitable conflict. The Ratmen, with their sheer numbers, immediately stood out as a dominant force, covering more ground than the other two armies combined.
Little combat took place in this opening round—each army wary of overextending too soon. But by the round’s end, it was clear that the Ratmen’s ability to control space and outnumber the other factions would make them a serious threat.
The battle began in earnest. Both the Dwarves and Undead maneuvered for position near the end of the rainbow, where the treasure was rumored to be buried. Skirmishes broke out as the first casualties fell—small engagements that hinted at the carnage to come.
Meanwhile, the Ratmen continued to spread out, securing more of the battlefield objectives while keeping their distance from direct combat. Their warlocks and ranged weapons picked at enemy forces, softening them up for later engagements.
The battlefield erupted into chaos. The Sky Dwarves and Undead clashed fiercely, each side suffering heavy casualties in brutal melee combat. The Dwarven machines and riflemen fought valiantly, but their numbers dwindled as Undead horrors overwhelmed their ranks.
Meanwhile, the Ratmen played their advantage to perfection—rather than getting bogged down in melee, they held their line and rained down ranged attacks on both exhausted armies. Their endless tide of reinforcements ensured they could outlast the others in attrition.
With the Dwarves and Undead locked in battle and weakened, the Ratmen tightened their grip on the battlefield.
By now, it was clear the Ratmen had seized control. Their superior numbers and range allowed them to keep the other armies at bay while advancing on the treasure. Wave after wave of verminous warriors surged forward, cutting down the remaining forces of both the Undead and the Dwarves.
The Dwarves, having suffered the brunt of Undead attacks earlier, were unable to mount a comeback. Their war machines lay in ruin, their elite troops scattered. The Undead fared slightly better, managing to hold one pot of gold against the tide of Ratmen.
In the end, however, the Ratmen claimed the second pot of gold and secured most of the battlefield objectives, leaving no doubt about the victor.
Ratmen: 6 Points (One pot of gold + most objectives)
Undead: 2 Points (One pot of gold)
Dwarves: 0 Points (Fallen in battle, no objectives secured)
As the dust settled, the Ratmen’s victory was undeniable. While the Dwarves and Undead battered each other, the Ratmen played the long game—holding ground, avoiding unnecessary fights, and claiming key objectives.
But even as they celebrated their win, the surviving Undead and Dwarves exchanged knowing glances, whispering about how they might have worked together to stop the rat horde before it was too late.
Perhaps next time, a new alliance will rise… but for now, the Ratmen scurry away, their filthy paws clutching the gold they so cleverly seized.
Despite the brutal competition, all players had a fantastic time, and the St. Patrick’s Day theme added a fun twist to the battle. A strange little man may have set this war in motion, but in the end, only the Ratmen lived to tell the tale of the treasure at the end of the rainbow.
Will the Ratmen hold onto their ill-gotten gold? Or will an Undead-Dwarven alliance spell their doom in the next war?
Only time will tell!
