One of the difficulties with wedding photography is the short amount of time you have to capture the best possible photographs, even in unflattering or unfavourable portraiture-friendly situations. What can you do, then, if the big day arrives in bright, harsh light? An accomplished wedding photographer demonstrates how she manages poor light to still produce beautiful, unforgettable photographs in this fantastic video instruction.

This excellent video instruction from Katelyn James will teach you how to work with harsh, unattractive light when photographing weddings. Even if you have the lighting equipment and someone to help with it, this can be challenging to pull off when you are working with large groups, as in the wedding party portraits shown in the video. Some wedding photographers use artificial light, frequently with an assistant to help handle the equipment efficiently. But you can think a flattering notion if you think about it carefully. James gives the complete summary in the video up top.

It's completely acceptable to simply use your left hand to shield the sun from your lens in those images where you want less flare if she doesn't want to use a lens hood (which is fine, I don't either).
