If you want a warm, vintage aesthetic with natural wood grain and an intimate on-ear fit for quiet listening, choose okcsc M1; if you need professional-grade studio accuracy with massive soundstage and over-ear comfort for long mixing sessions, choose HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva.
• okcsc M1: Its greatest strength is the unique Sapele wood shell that adds a distinct visual character and a lingering, spacious warmth to the audio; its biggest trade-off is the lack of wireless connectivity and an on-ear design that may not seal out ambient noise effectively. This pick is for the audiophile who prioritizes retro style and wired fidelity in a home setting.
• HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva: Its standout feature is the massive 50mm driver system designed for professional monitor-grade tuning with extended high-frequency response; its main compromise is the larger physical footprint and the open-back design which leaks sound. This pick is for the producer or gamer who demands absolute sonic transparency and expansive imaging.
The okcsc M1 Pro is a device built for those who appreciate the tactile and visual beauty of natural materials as much as they care about sound. The defining characteristic of this headset is the use of a Sapele wood shell. Unlike plastic or metal enclosures, wood interacts with sound waves in a way that many listeners describe as organic. Because each piece of wood has a unique grain pattern, no two units are exactly alike, adding a layer of personalization to your gear. If you are someone who likes their equipment to look like it belongs in a classic library or a vintage record store rather than a modern tech lab, this design will resonate deeply with you.
In terms of performance, the M1 utilizes a 40-millimeter dynamic driver with a composite diaphragm. While 40mm is a standard size, the engineering here focuses on making the bass range clear and expressive, which can be challenging for semi-open designs. The frequency response covers the full human hearing spectrum from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, ensuring you get the lows you expect without losing the details in the highs. The impedance is listed at 64 ohms, which suggests it might benefit slightly from a dedicated headphone amplifier to drive it fully, though it should work adequately with most portable players. The sensitivity of 98 dB indicates it is relatively easy to power, but the open-back nature means you will hear what is happening outside your ears just as clearly as what is playing inside them.

Comfort is handled through thick sponge ear pads and a headband wrapped in high-quality PU leather. The total weight is around 200 grams, which is light enough to prevent neck strain during moderate sessions. However, the "on-ear" placement means the pads rest directly on your pinnae rather than encompassing them. For some, this creates a more direct connection to the music, while others might find it less isolating than an over-ear design. You also get a detachable cable system using 8-core OFC wire, which promises good resolution and high-frequency extension. The package includes both a 3.5mm cable and a 6.35mm adapter, giving you flexibility to plug into everything from smartphones to desktop amps. This makes the M1 ideal for the user who wants a reliable, wired connection for critical listening at home, perhaps while sitting at a desk or on a couch, where you don't need to worry about battery life or Bluetooth interference.
The HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva is engineered for a completely different audience: the professional who needs precision and the enthusiast who craves an immersive, concert-hall experience. The headline spec here is the 50mm dynamic driver, significantly larger than the 40mm unit found in the M1. This larger surface area, combined with stronger neodymium magnets and a custom composite diaphragm featuring an ultra-pure copper ring, is designed to move air more efficiently. The result, according to the manufacturer's tuning goals, is a sound profile that balances powerful, fast bass with a natural midrange and crystal-clear treble. The frequency response extends up to 40,000 Hz, far beyond the typical human hearing limit, suggesting a focus on capturing ultrasonic harmonics that add air and detail to complex recordings.
Where the M1 feels like a vintage instrument, the Altruva feels like a piece of studio monitoring equipment. The construction uses PVD-coated steel, genuine wood, and vegan leather, creating a chassis that is both durable and luxurious. The design is explicitly "over-ear," meaning the ear cups surround your ears completely rather than resting on them. This is a crucial distinction for anyone planning to wear headphones for hours at a time. The open-back design allows for natural airflow, which prevents heat buildup and contributes to a wider, more realistic soundstage. You will feel like you are sitting in the middle of a live performance rather than having speakers plugged directly into your head. This makes it exceptionally well-suited for tasks like mixing tracks, gaming where spatial awareness is key, or simply enjoying high-resolution audio files in a quiet room.
However, this level of acoustic openness comes with specific requirements. With an impedance of 32 ohms and a sensitivity of 98 dB, these headphones are designed to be driven easily by various sources, but the open-back nature means there is zero isolation. If you plan to use these in a noisy coffee shop or on a plane, the external noise will bleed in, and the music will bleed out. The product description notes "passive noise cancellation," but given the open-back architecture, this likely refers to the structural damping of the ear cups rather than active electronic isolation. The included connectivity options include both 3.5mm and 6.35mm jacks, ensuring compatibility with professional audio interfaces and consumer devices alike. This is the tool for the person who treats their listening environment as a controlled space, whether that is a home studio, a dedicated listening room, or a quiet corner of an office.
• Best for visual aesthetics and craftsmanship → okcsc M1: If you value the uniqueness of hand-finished wood grain and a retro, vintage look, the M1 offers a personality that mass-produced plastic cannot match.
• Best for professional audio accuracy → HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva: The 50mm driver and 40kHz frequency response target a level of detail and tonal balance that is superior for critical listening and production work.
• Best for extended comfort → HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva: The over-ear design distributes pressure around the ear rather than on it, making it the only logical choice for marathon listening sessions.
• Best for portability and compactness → okcsc M1: The on-ear form factor and lighter build make the M1 slightly easier to slip into a bag for quick trips, provided you have a case.
• Best for soundstage and immersion → HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva: The open-back architecture creates a three-dimensional audio field that the M1 cannot replicate due to its smaller drivers and on-ear placement.
• Best for versatility with amplification → okcsc M1: The 64-ohm impedance might require a bit more power to shine, rewarding users with higher-end DACs and amps more noticeably than the lower-impedance Altruva.
• Best for airplane travel (with caveats) → okcsc M1: While neither is truly wireless, the on-ear design of the M1 is less bulky and potentially more manageable in tight spaces than the large over-ear cups of the Altruva, though neither offers true isolation.
• Best for gaming and spatial awareness → HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva: The expansive imaging and detailed treble response provide better positional cues in competitive games compared to the warmer, more contained sound of the M1.
I would buy the HIFIXAUDIO Kiwi Ears Altruva because the engineering behind the 50mm driver and the extended frequency response represents a more significant leap in audio fidelity. The over-ear design ensures I can listen for hours without discomfort, and the open-back soundstage provides a realism that is essential for appreciating the nuances of high-quality music. However, if my primary goal was finding a stylish pair of on ear headphones for airplane travel where I needed something compact and visually striking, I would pivot to the okcsc M1. Ultimately, for serious listening, the Altruva is the superior instrument, offering a level of clarity and depth that justifies its larger form factor.
Neither of these models is a Bluetooth earbud; both are wired headphones. If you specifically need wireless functionality for air travel to avoid tangled cords, you would need to look for a different category of product entirely, as these are designed for stationary, high-fidelity listening.
The open-back design of the Altruva will leak sound significantly, and the on-ear M1 offers minimal sealing. Neither is ideal for noisy airplane cabins without additional earplugs.
Yes, the product information confirms that a special storage case is included with the okcsc M1 to protect the wooden shell and cables when carrying the headset around.
Absolutely. The specifications highlight a "monitor-grade tuning" with a balanced sound signature and extended frequency response, which are essential characteristics for professional audio mixing and mastering tasks.
