We care, you care, let's show it! With our charity readathon, we are all working together to demonstrate how vital reading and education are to us. We are acting both on a local level, with the support of book-stores in our neighborhoods and/or libraries near us, and on a larger, international scale, by supporting Room to Read who promotes literacy and education (in particular girls') in developing countries all over the world.
8 February 2023 to 8 March 2023
Our Readathon (charity reading marathon) aims at promoting reading and literature in France, as well as supported Room to Read (a non profit organisation supporting girls' education and literacy programs) by raising funds which will be given to them.
Locally, our Readathon invites people to read, and to buy books in their local bookstores. Every book represents both people reading and our continuing support of local libraries, notably in the difficult times due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On an international scale, our Readathon seeks to help Room to Read. Concretely, one euro collected equals one book published in the native language of the target country or funding to train teachers and build libraries . The goal is to promote, on a global level, education for all, especially and most importantly when the sanitary situation makes access to educational resources even more complicated. We do our part, like the hummingbird.
Choose what suits you best! You may be a sponsor and/or a reader and/or a partner
As a sponsor, you donate money to Room to Read, a non profit which promotes girls' education as well as literacy. Their motto is: "World change starts with educated children." The British International Section at Lycée Saint-Charles is extremely keen to help them expand their highly beneficial influence, which is why we chose to raise funds for them with our charity readathon. Sponsors are free to donate whatever amount they see fit. For the record, you may be both a sponsor and a reader.
As a reader, you commit to reading daily during the time of the readathon. We recommend at least 10' a day. However, depending on your time, your reading habits and your age, it's up to you to determine how long your daily reading will be. By reading in our readathon, you not only show that you care about reading, literature and the goals and initiatives supported by Room to Read, you are also devoting your time and energy to thank our sponsors for their generosity. You may read any type of book and in any language you wish. and we strongly invite you to buy the books you will be reading in your local bookstores. For the record, you may be both a reader and a sponsor.
As a partner library or a bookstore, you agree to display our readathon poster and leaflets, and promote our project within your network. To thank you for your support and recognize your involvement, we will publish with your permission the name and address of your bookstore or library and strongly invite our participants to buy or borrow their books from you. For the record, partners can also be readers or sponsors.
