FLINGGOLF AT OHCC
Our Beginnings
Since our formation in February 2025, our FlingGolf sport has now grown to include more than 150 residents who have been given lessons by Don Quigley and Tom Murphy on our practice greens and on the front nine holes of our beautiful golf course. Flingers are playing the course every day, having fun and enjoying the walk or ride around the course. We are eagerly awaiting the completion of the lake so that we can try our flinging skills on the back nine of our course as well.
In May 2025 we initiated Fling Fridays, where many of our players gathered in the afternoon to form groups and play one or more rounds on the course. Other residents often come then for lessons so that they too can begin enjoying the sport on a regular basis. Traditional golfers are welcome to join us and play in mixed foursomes with flingers.
We have now held four Flingfests on the last Friday of the month, at which many FlingGolf tour players have given on-the-course instruction or played fun scrambles with over 50 players. Additional residents have attended to watch and enjoy food and beverages in the Lanai.
Joining the Golf Club
In October2025, FlingGolf was approved by by the full membership of the Ocean Hills Golf Club and added as an additional sport. So, what does this mean to our FlingGolf membership?
We are now part of the largest Social Club at OHCC and no longer a Special Interest Group.
We are represented in the Golf Club leadership by a FlingGolf Committee Chairperson (Don Quigley initially).
We have access to all Golf Club’s resources, including mailing rosters, online event signups, publicity for our events in the OHCC Living Magazine, and participation in Golf Club social functions.
We are now in a position to explore mutual areas of cooperation with traditional golfers and to learn from each other.
The $15 fee to join the Golf Club will provide membership for the rest of this year and for all of 2026.
Plans for 2026
We are working with the leadership of the Golf Club to plan for a variety of Fling Fridays and Flingfests for 2026 that will appeal to those flingers who just want to have fun playing FlingGolf as well as to those of us who also enjoy competition.
Fling Fridays and Flingfests will resume on Friday, January 9th, and will be held in the mornings instead of in the afternoons. This will avoid widely varying start times that would be required throughout the year when we try to play 18 holes, after the lake is completed, before the sun sets during the early Spring, late Fall, and Winter. By starting our events when the Golf Course opens at 8:00 AM, we will also avoid afternoon conflicts with casual golfers already on the course. Tee times for Fling Fridays will typically be completed before 10:00 AM. Flingfests will typically complete teeing off by 11:00 depending upon the number of foursomes.
Fling Fridays will continue to be casual play, with some up-front games and training of newcomers. Players will be primarily Fling golfers, though traditional golfers will be welcome to play along with us.
Flingfests will again be on the last Friday of the month (January through October). They will have signups in advance with scheduled tee times for tournaments that will vary from fun Scramble formats, with team scoring only, to more competitive individual and/or team events. Some of the Flingfests will include traditional golfers as partners with Fling golfers. All of the Flingfests will have the Lanai reserved for socializing and refreshments – either sponsored or BYOE. We will also use the big screen TV in the Lanai as a live leaderboard to view the progress of foursomes out on the course.
