FLINGGOLF AT OHCC
Since our formation in February, our FlingGolf sport has now grown to include more than 150 residents who have been given lessons by Don Quigley and Tom Murphy on our practice greens and on the front nine holes of our beautiful golf course. Flingers are playing the course every day, having fun and enjoying the walk or ride around the course. We are eagerly awaiting the completion of the lake so that we can try our flinging skills on the back nine of our course as well.
In May we initiated Fling Fridays, where many of our players gather each Friday between 2:30 and 5 PM to form groups and play one or more rounds on the course. Other residents often come then for lessons so that they too can begin enjoying the sport on a regular basis. Traditional golfers are welcome to join us and play in mixed foursomes of flingers and hackers.
We have now held fous Flingfests on the last Friday of the month, at which many FlingGolf tour players have given on-the-course instruction or played fun scrambles to over 50 players. Additional residents have attended to watch and enjoy food and beverages in the Lanai.
For more information about FlingGolf or to schedule lessons, preferably on Fling Fridays, please contact Don “Down Under” Quigley (dwqusc@gmail.com) or Tom “Fling On” Murphy (btwmurphy@gmail.com).
UPDATE: On October 2nd, FlingGolf was approved by by the full membership of the Ocean Hills Golf Club and added as an additional sport. So, what does this mean to our FlingGolf membership?
We are now part of the largest Social Club at OHCC and no longer a Special Interest Group.
We will be represented in the Golf Club leadership by a FlingGolf Committee Chairperson (Don Quigley initially).
We will have access to all Golf Club’s resources, including mailing rosters, online event signups, publicity for our events in the OHCC Living Magazine, and participation in Golf Club social functions.
We are now in a position to explore mutual areas of cooperation with traditional golfers and to learn from each other.
Will this affect how we play on the Golf Course?
There will be no changes to our casual play. Its still first come – first served on the tee box at Hole #1 at any time the course is not closed for scheduled tournaments or maintenance.
Fling Fridays will be open to all for either play on the course, practice on the chipping and putting greens, or training for newcomers.
Monthly Flingfests will be open to those players who have joined the Golf Club as it will be contributing funds to support FlingGolf and its special events.
We will look for ways have additional events where FlingGolfers can play alongside traditional golfers in fun ways.
The $15 fee to join the Golf Club will provide membership for the rest of this year and for all of 2026.
