Vessel of the Sun's Judgement
The ruler of Verona from the famous tale of ill-fated lovers immortalized by Shakespear as his play "Romeo and Juliet". A man shackled by laws and duties his entire life, who was helpless to save his kinsmen from their fates. His Saint Graph is ordinarily too weak to properly manifest as a Servant, but due to a series of circumstances he's been fused with the Greek god of the sun, Helios Hyperion. However, their disparate personalities have caused some quirks to the fused state.
AKA: Luciano, Helios, Prince of Verona
ATTRIBUTE: Sky
ALIGNMENT: Lawful-Good
CLASS: Rider
TRAITS: Divinity, Humanoid, Hominidae, Immune to Pigify, Levitating Servant (third stage), Servant, Seven Knights Servant, Weak to Enuma Elish, King, Male, Brynhildr's Beloved (1st and 2nd stages only)
PRONOUNS: He/Him
SEXUALITY: Gay
NOTES: Escalus and Helios in a sense two beings in one body. And who is primarily in charge varies depending on the ascension form he's in. First ascension is purely Escalus, while third is almost entirely Helios with his worst elements tempered by Escalus' morals. Second is more of a mix of the two, more Escalus leaning but showing more of Helios' personality traits.
If Escalus were to somehow be summoned purely as himself he would be a Ruler, so even as a Rider courtesy of Helios he has some of the Ruler class traits. Though of course much weaker than they should be.
Around certain Servants Escalus will claim to solely be Helios, to avoid awkward encounters.
He had several children within an arranged marriage only for the sake of having heirs. While Escalus did love his wife, and she loved him, it was not romantic on either of their parts. They were best friends, and nothing more.
Harbors immense guilt over what happened in Verona involving the Montagues and Capulets. At the same time, he hates his parents and grandparents for never ending the feud before it was thrust upon him at its worst.

His full name is Luciano Rafaelle Escalus della Scala.
He is also Helios Phaethon Hyperion.
The prince of the Italian city of Verona and the Greek deity of the sun and upheld justice.
A strange fusion of two weakened Saint Graphs to emerge into one whole Servant, something only possible thanks to the Singularity he was discovered in and Chaldea's own summoning system.
If asked, however, he says to just call him Escalus.

Escalus was born as the third and only surviving child to the then Prince of Verona and his wife.
A sickly child from birth, much like his older siblings had been, he still managed to survive to an age that his parents felt safe to give him a proper name. And so Luciano was presented to the public at two years old. The boy was unusual in his appearance, credited to his poor health. Smaller than his cousins and not bearing either the golden hair of his father's family nor his mother's raven curls. Instead his hair was a pale, ashen grey and wild to the point of being near-untameable.
Additionally, he was prone to terrible migraines from childhood for the entirety of his life.
Often the boy would be sent to stay with his aunt and uncle at their country estate, where the fresh air did him better than the more stifled air of the Verona palazzo. It was there that he became close with his younger cousin, Mercutio. The two were practically inseparable, with Luciano feeling much like an older brother with his young kin.
But such was the way of the world in that time that childhoods were rarely allowed to last.
A plague swept through Verona one year while Luciano stayed at the countryside villa in safety. However that summer, one year exactly after the plague ravaged the city, a minister that had worked closely with the Prince arrived with terrible news. Luciano's parents had both succumbed to the disease and passed, leaving the boy of only twelve years old to succeed them. So with barely any time to say his goodbyes, the newly crowned Prince was swept back to a city still reeling from the loss of life brought about by the plague.
There he would be all-but isolated in the palazzo to study all that was required of a Prince, before at thirteen he was officially given a coronation.
And even still he was not allowed to leave the palace that was more of a prison without an escort.
It was many years before he saw his cousin again.

The events of the story of Romeo and Juliet left their scars on everyone, Escalus included.
He threw himself into his work after laying fierce sanctions on the Lords Montague and Capulet for what their inability to keep things between themselves had brought about. He avoided Benvolio, unable to face the younger man's ire and blame that Escalus wholly believed he deserved. Laws were passed, outlawing such feuds as what had just ended so as to not allow any other lives to be lost due to such stupidity.
Escalus did all he could to improve Verona in every possible way he was able to.
And for decades it worked.
Until one day he refused an offer of a trade deal with a merchant from Florence, one with a questionable reputation. The look in the man's eyes sent a chill down the now much older Escalus' back. And, a few weeks later, an assassin broke into his office as he worked late at night. Escalus fought, for even now he had not neglected the fencing he had been trained in, but it was ultimately no use. A knife sunk into his heart, and the prince's life was ended.
"It was a pathetic...and fitting way for me to go. But I took the assassin with me, in the end."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As a Servant his appearance is much like he was in his early twenties. A young man with pale features and a short, delicate stature and feminine face only offset by his severe expressions. Though Escalus has little confidence in his looks personally, there's no denying that he is a rather beautiful man in truth.
