Above ground, in the overworld, Yuki's just turned 21 and is quietly awaiting her friends. Or perhaps no one in particular. And by a stroke of chance, one ball and one truck gladly sends her down to the depths of hell- in particular, the fourth circle. Arriving, Yuki is confused with a sudden burn to her hand- revealing an I upon her palms. She's then quickly welcomed by two receptionists; Nana, and Nene who inform her that she'll need to attend school and classes to rank up since she's a Rank I, the lowest rank.
From there, Yuki wanders through the streets and finds herself at the Rank I Dorms where she meets Julius who introduces himself with his first milk joke. He also informs her that to rank up Yuki must know her family and know the infamous world called Hell. Iye, Yuki's new acquaintance also informs Yuki that she cannot return to the overworld unless she ranks up to gain the privilege to. And with that, the pink lass calls it a night.
Awaking to Julius and Azure, Yuki listens in on yet another chatter about milk. However the three are indeed running late for class and Yuki's yet to obtain a uniform, so Azure gladly gives them theirs. After changing and heading to class in haste- they arrive quite late indeed.
Attending Professor Regis' class of Basic Magic, the class immediately starts off with a show of fire magic. Supervising the class is the lovely Miss Sana as the students one by one show their tell of fire magic. Some succeeding, others not fairing quite as well. Julius is featured to have not the best sight and Karma cannot seem to cast any fire magic. Valentine however has a bit of an attitude against the teacher, which causes a bit of a scene in class, though it's quickly shut down by the professor himself. Abruptly then of course in the midst of class of course- Professor Thorn intrudes class and Professor Regis graciously says, "let's go lesbians, but not in my class."
Soon class quickly ends and Yuki tails along with Azure to lunch at the cafeteria. Julius swiftly serves them food before the two head off to look for a place to sit and eat. However Yuki finds herself quite irritated when the other students bluntly and rudely turns her away. In anger, she adamantly sits and eavesdrops once the student council arrives and sit up on much better tables. And from there, Yuki makes her attempt to sit up there too only to be stopped by Professor Leon who advises her to turn back now. Quickly after, Yuki attracts the student council's attention and tall red haired demon named Cherry approaches her with nothing else but a chuckle. Then in haste, Azure and Yuki leave the cafeteria, not even able to eat their fill yet.
Escaping from the cafeteria, Yuki spots and follows Vetis, Riamu, and Horress into the gym where she meets the band. Quickly things get out of hand and a bit of drama spikes- Yuki once interested is swiftly turned sour by being picked on by the nasty demons. From her tail being ridiculed and her being treated poorly due to her rank, she leaves and bumps into Moloch who tells her even worse news.
Moloch bluntly tells Yuki that Rank I's are killed every end of the year during the cleansing. And with a "good luck" Moloch then leaves Yuki to it who quickly wanders about in her low demeanor. She finds a bar with a bartender inside who offers her a drink after she's done a fair bit of cleaning labor to pay for a bottle of wine. After welcoming her and listening to her whilst she drinks away, Bael gives her a bit of his sympathy and gives her an ear as she talks about. He tells that the opportunity of a redemption is achievable even after she's died and come to hell. Ranking up doesn't seem to be on his objective, but Bael does offer Yuki a conversation worth while before she leaves.
Angrily the pink lass approaches her friends about the cleansing, finding it quite unfair that Julius and Azure hadn't told her about it yet. With good reason, they explain why they keep it from her, and they agree it's unfair despite the circumstances. Julius genuinely hoped that perhaps Yuki might've ranked up on her own without knowing in the first place. Additionally, Yuki is still quite determined to learn more and rank up- keeping up her hopes for the meanwhile before she heads to bed.
Though the next class she attends in the morning, is Professor Vinson's class of Human History. Again late and irritating the teacher, Yuki doesn't exactly get off on the right foot. From the class speaking of bullying to Yuki attempting to bully the other students- particularly Luke from the band; she's quickly turned down and put in her place by the professor. In tow, the supervising professor too, Professor Stayk, intrudes and puts her foot down, sternly telling her to take a seat.
However as Yuki refuses to, she's sent out of class and attends her first detention. Professor Thorn is quietly awaiting her in the class and asks her what she did- only to let Yuki know she was being quite ungrateful. Despite the class not being of much use, Yuki must understand that all classes have their own purpose in their own way whether it means to rank up or to simply educate her throughout the school year. With a solid attempt to straighten her out and give her some answers to some questions she has, she quietly sends Yuki out, allowing her to leave school without much else than a warning.
Detention was quick and easy, Yuki heads out and runs into Taishi and Raiden who mock her and give her quite a time, humoring themselves with her determination. They get her to fetch some drinks in a promise that it might help her rank up if she helps a higher rank, but that doesn't seem to be as helpful as they continue to talk down on her.
Escaping from that uncomfortable situation, Yuki meets up with Julius who invites her to a little location where he wants to treat her to something nice. Possibly to bring up her mood. However Riamu and Horress interrupt and and talk to the two out at the front gates. With a bit of banter then, Yuki leaves after Riamu stutters on herself after slipping and calling Yuki "cute" which Yuki takes with her.
Back to the main objective then, Julius takes Yuki to the maid café where they request for their favorite maid, best maid, VinVin. To Yuki's surprise- the maid looks quite familiar, but she nonetheless enjoys her stay and drink her fill of boba. And after all that, VinVin requests she meet him outside, alone, to reveal to her that he is indeed Professor Vinson. Sincerely, Professor Vinson lets her know he was having an off day that morning and that she shouldn't have had to deal with his sour demeanor then. With his sincerest apology and sympathy towards her, he offers her a lifeline that if she ever needs any help- she can simply ask him. Yuki is then on her way home to turn in for the day.
Determined to rank up still, Yuki makes her way to the school's track field where she runs into Karma once again. With poor attempts in making live snowmen, he lets her know he's doing his best and that he can't exactly do any other magic than snow and ice. Without much confidence in his knowledge, Yuki informs the lad that he should know of the cleansing, but he seemed to have already knew that.
Once lunch reaches again, Yuki occupies herself with helping feed Iye. Accidentally last time, the poor baby was locked in his own room, but now this is much different. Outside and dining on some good soup, they both enjoy themselves until an X-Demon is pointed out to them thanks to Moloch. Without much concern, Moloch departs and leaves them be as she returns to lunch. Iye and Yuki then swiftly enters the gym where Riamu and Horress aids them. Horress warns Yuki of the student council, letting her know not to get on their bad side. Moloch is said to be even stronger than the school faculty.
Nonetheless, aggravating an X-Demon is a well known death wish, so it was best to leave them alone and simply run and ignore. Yuki however is adamant on living and suggests that perhaps they can fight back against the X-Demons, but other than that, she quickly runs back to the Rank I Dorms with Iye to safety.
A new day calls for a new schedule. Yuki seeks out Bael and offers him money in exchange for booze since last time she didn't have money to properly purchase a drink. With a lovely chatter, the two talk quaintly whilst Bael offers her plenty of cookies.
Sharing a conversation, Yuki is suddenly startled and spooked by the large and lovely madam of a demon. Who is actually Bael's own mother. In a bit of a shaken state, Yuki's manner of speech picks up and she tries her best to keep a conversation despite her obvious fear.
After leaving the bar then, Yuki is even more scared when an X-Demon tails closely behind. Like a rigged game of cat and mouse, Yuki flees in haste and makes her way into Iye's room where she quickly closes the door. She firmly tells them not to open the door and begs Iye to stay put, though the X-Demon's name, as Iye declares, is Gregory. From there, Azure and her share a rather heart felt conversation about troubling matters. Yuki firmly declares that Rank I's need to be looked out for since they should be a priority since they're the ones who're faced with a haunting death around the corner yearly.
Azure wants to stay in the background because they're used to it, but Yuki wants to understand and offers the other an ear to listen to. Sincerely and with care, Azure shares their past with Yuki to which Yuki gives them some sympathy before they call it a night to await tomorrow.
Then at school, Yuki bumps into Pistachio who quite literally berates her for trying to copy one of the heads of hell. Though from their bickering and random sound- the two don't seem to get along quite well as they enter the gym to which Professor Thorn is awaiting for them. Who else was awaiting by the lockers was Luke who was in a bit of a predicament until Yuki offered her help. After changing and participating in gym class, Yuki tries her best to keep her pace alongside with mingling with the others. From talking with Riamu again in the midst of pointing out her speed and physique- Yuki also tries to talk with the band. She learns that they've got a gig at his bar soon, but before soon she was approached by Cherry who asks for her name. Giving the demon her name then, Yuki is in a bit of a panic as she stays close by to Julius.
However when given the chance to demonstrate her upper body strength, Yuki along side Julius doesn't seem to meet expectations. And then with a quick game of red light, green light- Yuki learns that demons don't stop at red lights. Though once Yuki convinces Professor Thorn to have everyone play the game right- Julius remains on the ground and groans like a little baby. And to Yuki's disappointment, she tells him she was expecting more- maybe a secret six pack, but to her dismay that might not be it.
The streets welcome Yuki as she walks about, soon approaching what seemed to be a fluffy plushie. However to her dismay, it was someone - someone she wasn't quite expecting to see. Taishi is headless and with a monotone voice expresses to Yuki that he's a flesh golem and made of several body parts. It appears that being dismantled is quite a regular and norm for him, but Yuki doesn't seem to understand at first.
Alas, Yuki takes Taishi's head and meets up with Julius and Elizabeth. Reluctantly, Elizabeth seems to feign her sympathies for the Rank I's and makes conversation with Taishi who's only got his head. Nonetheless, the four of them head off to see the band playing by Bael's bar and enjoy themselves to a quick show. And after the show, the band takes their time tending to the select demons who want their signatures.
Quickly then, Yuki brings up ranking up with Luke and she tries to let the other know of the cleansing, but Valentine swiftly intervenes and eludes from the topic. To Yuki's surprise, she sees what's going on and voices her opinion towards the other. Nonetheless, the conversation doesn't go anywhere as Valentine expresses his disapproval before using his abilities on Yuki. Rendering him unable to talk about the topic of cleansing - Yuki swiftly goes to fetch a drink. Pistachio is bluntly turned down and seems familiar with Bael. After so, Yuki and Bael have a bit of banter right next to Professor Regis, Julius, and Elizabeth. Obviously flustered and lying, Yuki feigns her practice of magic to the teacher. The conversation carries over on the talk about music. Taishi then valiantly returns thanks to Coco who gives him to Yuki again before leaving.
And as anticipated - Yuki performs a wonderful tune featuring Taishi before leaving the stage in haste after everyone else leaves. Finally, on the hunt once more, they venture out to find Taishi's body.
Returning Taishi's head to his body, she meets up with Raiden who was spotting the other's headless body. With a bit of a chat, abruptly then, Taishi demolishes a street lamp that someone probably took a while to build. Someone will surely have a word with him, but for now, Yuki swiftly departs since she feels uncertain by the two lads. Taishi does express that Yuki looks like she might not come back, but the two's conversation draws out for another time.
Back to schedule though, Yuki acquaints Iye out to practice some magic. As per Professor' Regis's words, he required them to show for their magic. But as the two chat a bit, Yuki tells Iye of the gym class that took place the other day, only for Iye to inform her that he'd been used as a dodge ball by Cherry. And speak of the devil, Cherry swiftly drops in while they try to conjure magic, unsuccessfully. To be matter of fact, the two of them just sounded constipated. With absolute joy though, Cherry shows them how it was done, slightly spooking the two Rank I demons before she leaves.
Sneakily, Iye shows to the pink haired demon a bit of fire magic before the next day where they both confront the bullies with the other Rank I's. From the banter alone, Yuki defends herself and the rest of the Rank I's before she throws a fit of rage. In a miraculous turn of events- a ball of fire is summoned - the bullies are quick to flee elsewhere then as Yuki is left to assure Azure, Julius, and Iye that they shouldn't allow the bullying happen.
Just then, Professor Regis confronts Yuki and tells her to check her hand, claiming the spell was of Rank II. However, he does firmly suggest for her not to set the school on fire.
Once again late to class, this one being Transformation Class, Yuki sits down after some time next to Moloch. Surprisingly, this isn't the first time Yuki's met the professor. Earlier from Professor Vinson's class of Human History - the once white and black professor is now black and white. Miss Stayk, the professor sternly yet calmly informs Yuki of their luck since this is one of the classes that help demons rank up. "You're not going to cause trouble in my class are you?" Was what Miss Stayk said last before Yuki proceeds to do exactly that. Trouble.
With the constant interruption, Yuki asks many questions and vigorously argues with the teacher who beckons her with the question of what was her excuse to not rank up so far. It's revealed then that Miss Stayk is a pastor as his human alias, and on top of that they had less time to rank up, firmly denying Yuki's prompted argument of not having enough time. And from the constant interruption then, Yuki is put on the spotlight. Though soon to be dismissed and met outside, Miss Stayk gives Yuki a bit of insight before letting her go.
Lunch quickly approaches, and back in the cafeteria, Yuki is told it's her turn on lunch duty. With her attempted try at it, she meets Raiden who runs her about over his meal, but with some haste of wits, she finally gets his order down and moves on to the next students who order their meals without trouble. Though like an unusual spike of interest in the air - Raiden boldly courts Moloch who turns him down before he could even blink. And surely, Yuki flees from the scene from irritation and creeping anger.
During lunch hour, the professors take their breaks in the longue - all of them resting up and enjoying their meals before a certain pink girl pops in. Without much of a prompted arrival, Yuki sits herself at the table soon and makes an argument over her dilemma.
She presses for them to focus on Rank I's with the teachers, but they frankly tell her that they're only Rank III's and II's and cannot change the system of hell throughout nine entire circles. It's then told that there's not a current ruler of hell - no king nor queen to acquire the throne. And surely despite there being heads of hell within each respective circle. However aside from that, there's no confirmed Rank V in position to take place as a either a King or Queen to make changes in hell. Professor Regis and Thorn are informative, but indifferent - meanwhile Professor Vinson shows promise of interest in helping change.
Alas, Miss Stayk dislikes the idea and tells both Yuki and Professor Vinson to stop before excusing Yuki. However a small dispute does arrive when Vinson and Stayk go face to face for a second, not exactly ending it on a good note before Yuki is sent out with Bael. Then on their wayward home, Bael expresses his concern for Yuki's actions since he worries about the possible consequences. But just then - she and Bael encounter a squad of X-Demons who lurk around the dorms, quietly but eerily, they seem to eye the pink floof like they're simply eyeing a fresh batch of pink cotton candy.
It is Basic Magic class once again, and this time, Professor Regis declares that he'll be doing this session differently in class. It obviously gets out of hand - a handful of the students who were Rank II's spoke up about how unfair it was. Furious over the situation, they all claim this wasn't fair and that prioritizing the Rank I's wasn't going to help make the dilemma better. Professor Vekstamm then intrudes in on the class after feeling such amount of strong energy. With an agreement soon after some discussion - from professor to professor - Regis proposes that he'll be hosting an after school class for the Rank I's to attend.
After class, Yuki departs and finds Bael taking a stroll out on the streets. With the intentions of heading to his bar, but meeting him by the fountain instead - she beckons on about some inquiries. Spotting that the demon was in a different wear, Yuki assumes Bael was heading elsewhere instead of his bar. Bael does express that Yuki keeps staring, worried she was objectifying him, but she denies it. The blue demon then speaks up, mentioning the familiarity he senses from the other. Unsure of it still, he gives her some advice along with some information about his own quirks and bodily advantages. Quite resilient, Bael proves to be a well asset against the X-Demons, but aside from that - after a show of magic, they two part ways.
Singing a song, Luke vocalizes his inner turmoil as he walks down the rather empty streets. Surely there's more to it, but catching the sound of music - Yuki peers out from the bushes. Awkward and yet interested, Yuki approaches Luke who was rather embarrassed when he found out someone was stalking him. Questioning then if the other was okay, Yuki expresses that she needs to talk to Luke again. To clarify it all, Yuki wanted to tell about the cleansing to Luke. Even more so when Yuki learns that the other demon has family back in the human realm - and ever so desperately, Luke wants to see them again. Confiding in each other for a split moment, Yuki understands but is surprised to hear that Luke sold his soul.
Though before Yuki could really proceed to tell Luke about the cleansing - Valentine rushes in like there was no tomorrow. Feigning a manner of sweetness, Valentine tries with his best efforts to paint Yuki in bad lighting. Akira too tags along, somewhat standing by and listening to the mayhem that was going down. Valentine uses his powers and refuses to let the pink tart tell more of the cleansing which is quite a predicament.
After leaving Yuki to herself - Azure quickly joins her and they ask her about what happened. Filled in with information and a "plan", Yuki desperately and quickly gathers the Rank I's she knows and heads to Azure's family shop. From there, they run into Julius and at the shop - the lovable Iye and Azure's friend, Jacky. Karma is also there as they enter the homey garden shop. Swiftly then, upstairs they head where Yuki devises a plan to get information to Luke. Talking for a while - Yuki makes it apparent she wants to help, even if things aren't ideal. The plan ultimately then involves Julius who proves to be null against Valentine's powers.
Finally confronting Valentine - Julius is Yuki's trump card as the two boys are relocated. With Valentine out of the way then, Luke gives the pestering pink demon one minute to talk. Though with little to no belief, the flame demon refuses to acknowledge any of Yuki's words. But again and again, Yuki defends herself and profusely tells Luke that the X-Demons are the ones that are of danger to the Rank I's - yet again Luke doesn't believe... until the X-Demons show up themselves. Like a murder of crows, the tall and mysterious demons stood upon the roofs and pillars, eyeing the smaller Rank I demons down below.
For a moment, time seemed to stop but yet Yuki uses this to prove her point. Of course, it would be best for her to still run. Panicking then, Luke grows hysteric and Yuki confesses that the reason why she'd been interrupting class was because she felt the system unfair. The thought of deserving help because they're Rank I's.
Time later, Yuki attends school and it's about lunch time, so she heads to the cafeteria with Azure. There, things seem to unfold for the worse. Riamu expresses her anxious heart as she shifts about - unable to find Horress completely set her in a panicked state. And of course, Yuki condescendingly turns Riamu's proposal down and tells her to sit with Valentine instead. Without kindness, Yuki then cowards behind Azure as Valentine sarcastically belittles Yuki, calling her out.
But again and again - the pink demon says she's right, claiming she wanted to do the right thing. However Valentine bickers back and says that Yuki didn't have a right to since they weren't her friends, but rather Valentine's friends. All the while, Luke is admittedly sitting in the corner, quite depressed. She then had the galls to say she's "trying to make things better" to which Valentine finds humorous before he threatens to bring the cleansing to her right now, as a plausible threat.
Professor Regis steps in and sends the two into the detention room where he sternly tells them to shut up. Of course, classic Yuki refuses to do just that and continues to talk to Azure, who kindly came in to check on Yuki. And Horress' whereabouts is found as he's where he loves most - detention.
Valentine is obviously annoyed and is utter disbelief, but it's also no mystery that Regis is probably more annoyed than any of them. The phrase, "sit down, shut up," doesn't seem to apply to Yuki. Rightfully, he's angry and sends them to Professor Thorn where she makes them run laps until their feet are on fire, or so the gym professor says.
While on the track - Yuki continues to pester Valentine who is more or less still annoyed with Yuki. But the pink disaster clings like a plague as the red demon tries to make their laps count before finally confessing to the other. Dawning on it - Yuki feels a bit dumbfounded as she realizes Valentine wasn't all bad. So graciously, Yuki seemed to have ruined a friendship for her own selfish reasons, whilst Valentine was planning on taking Luke to the human realm illegally. With some explanation, the red demon also informs Yuki that he likes Luke as a friend despite his aunt being the one who's contracted Luke's soul. But the idea was, that when Valentine's Aunt headed to Earth, Valentine was going to magically hack Luke to Earth with.
However before they could proceed with more, and shortly after calling for Bael - the three professors interrupt them and direct the students back to the track. Singling out Yuki, Professor Thorn hands her over to Miss Stayk who tells the whining student that either they get a home visit or to write them a minimum 5000 word paper about the day of Yuki's death. And when the paper was done, it's to be handed to them so they can throw it away.
Wanting to talk to Bael, Yuki excitedly enters the bar, however she's met with someone else instead. Lady Catryna was just on her way out before exchanging a bit of a conversation with the pink demon through notes. Idle chit chat later, she informs Yuki that her son was upstairs and that she had permission to visit him on the top floor where his room should be.
Heading up there - Yuki runs into Bael... awkwardly. With a few yelps, Bael in haste changes into some clothes since he was just fresh out of a shower when Yuki walked in, unannounced. From there, the two talk about their features - mostly their horns. They also converse about Gordon Ramsay before Bael informs Yuki as to why she seemed so familiar. But to her dismay, Yuki expresses her indifference to learning her mother, Lilith, frequents the Fourth Circle and knows of Bael and Catryna. Without much else to say as she was mostly just speechless - Yuki then asks Bael to inquire his mother about Lilith. She then leaves with a few thanks, closing the door as she sees herself out.
On the search for Julius, Yuki finds herself at the maid café where she's greeted by said snake boy and best maid, VinVin. Julius was originally acquainted with Elizabeth before she in haste, leaves. VinVin then offers Yuki the uneaten chair that hadn't been consumed by Cherry yet, so of course she takes a seat while asking Julius if he knew about the day's event. The promised Rank I special class to help the lower ranks, Yuki sounds pretty excited to attend said class.
Professor Vinson then gives Yuki some information out of kindness, telling her that his rank up was of confidence and likeability and not of power or fear. So Yuki feels a bit of inspiration from that and takes it to heart - however, Vinson does tell her with truth that most people find her annoying rather than fearful. Then slipping in, Vinson informs that he's heard of people ranking down too, though it's never been seen. Abruptly then, Pistachio barges in and requests for his favorite maid to which VinVin rightfully refuses.
And if that wasn't enough - Lady Catryna enters and talks with Pistachio with a grace of elegance. Everyone stands up as her presence is known, a simple show of respect that Yuki doesn't seem to understand or process. But as Catryna is given VIP treatment, Yuki inquires VinVin about why everyone stood up. "You need to show some damn respect in front of one of the heads of hell," is all Vinson says to the unknowing and dumfounded pink demon.
Asking around then, Yuki learns that aside from Catryna, Moloch - the student council president - is also a Rank IV demon, and likely the only Rank IV demon student at the academy. With some bitterness and utter disrespect - Yuki expresses that Moloch can't be Queen of Hell one day because she simply doesn't see it herself. But whose to say ill of someone they hardly know than Yuki herself.
Before Yuki can ask more, Julius moves in to let Yuki know that the special attention class was starting soon, and again - as if it wasn't foretold - they might be late. So quickly, the two leave to attend the class in haste.
