Download and install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2019 on a PC or Mac

If this is the first time you're installing Office you may have some setup steps to do first. Expand the learn more section below.

However, if you're reinstalling Office, you've already redeemed a product key, or you're installing Office at work or school and know you have a license, then go to the section. sign in and install Office on your PC or Mac

Sign in to download Office

  1. Go to www.office.com and if you're not already signed in, select Sign in.

  2. Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. This account can be a Microsoft account, or work or school account. I forgot the account I use with Office

  3. After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with.

You signed in with a Microsoft account :

  • From the Office home page select Install Office.

  • Select Install (or depending on your version, Install Office>).

You signed in with a work or school account :

  • From the home page select Install Office (If you set a different start page, go to aka.ms/office-install.)

  • Select Office 365 apps to begin the installation.

4.This completes the download of Office to your device. To complete the installation, follow the prompts in the "Install Office" section below.

Install On Mac

Sign in and install Office

  1. Go to www.office.com and if you're not already signed in, select Sign in.

  2. Note: If you bought Office for personal use through your company's Microsoft HUP benefit, you may not be able to sign in here. Find installation help at Install Office through HUP.

  3. Sign in with the account you associated with this version of Office. This account can be a Microsoft account, or work or school account. I forgot the account I use with Office

  4. After signing in, follow the steps that match the type of account you signed in with.

  5. Follow the instructions below to complete installing your Office apps.


Install Office on Pc

  1. Depending on your browser, select Run (in Edge or Internet Explorer), Setup (in Chrome), or Save File (in Firefox).If you see the User Account Control prompt that says, Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device? select Yes. The install begins.

  2. Your install is finished when you see the phrase, "You're all set! Office is installed now" and an animation plays to show you where to find Office applications on your computer. Select Close.

Activate Office On Pc

  1. To open an Office app, select the Start button (lower-left corner of your screen) and type the name of an Office app, like Word.
    If you have Windows 8.1 or 8.0, type the name of an Office app on the Start screen.

  2. To open the Office app, select its icon in the search results.

  3. When the Office app opens, accept the license agreement. Office is activated and ready to use.



Install Office on Mac

  1. Once the download has completed, open Finder, go to Downloads, and double-click Microsoft Office installer.pkg file (the name might vary slightly).

  2. On the first installation screen, select Continue to begin the installation process.

  3. Review the software license agreement, and then click Continue.

  4. Select Agree to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.

  5. Choose how you want to install Office and click Continue.

  6. Review the disk space requirements or change your install location, and then click Install.

  7. Enter your Mac login password, if prompted, and then click Install Software. (This is the password that you use to log in to your Mac.)

  8. The software begins to install. Click Close when the installation is finished.

Launch an Office for Mac app and start the activation process

  1. Click the Launchpad icon in the Dock to display all of your apps.

  2. Click the Microsoft Word icon in the Launchpad.

  3. The What's New window opens automatically when you launch Word. Click Get Started to start activating. If you need help activating Office, see Activate Office for Mac.


Redeem a product key or activate Office

Office 2019 Office 2019 for Mac Microsoft 365 for home

If you just bought or got a Microsoft 365 subscription or a non-subscription version of Office such as Office 2019 there could be some things you need to do before you install or activate the Office apps.

Select your options from below:

Redeem a product key and install the apps

If you just bought Office and have a physical package, the first thing to do is redeem the product key included with the packaging.

Or, if you bought Office through an online retailer, you may have received the product key via email or it's written on your receipt.

To redeem this key go to setup.office.com and sign in with an existing Microsoft account or create a new one.

You only need to redeem this key once.


Activate Office

If you've already redeemed a product key and Office is installed, the next step is to launch an Office app and follow the prompts to activate.

Where to enter your Office product key

Office 2019 Office 2019 for Mac Office 2016 Microsoft 365 for home More...

If your purchase of Office or Microsoft 365 came with a product key, you enter your product key on one of the websites listed below for your product. After you enter your key, you can download and install Office, or you can renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.

Microsoft 365, Office 2019, Office 2016, and Office 2013 (PC and Mac)

To redeem a new purchase

Step 1: Go to www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup.

Step 2: Sign in with your Microsoft account, or create one if you don't have one. Be sure to remember this account so that you can install or reinstall Office later, without a product key.

Step 3: Enter your product key, without hyphens, if prompted. If you don't see the option to enter your product key, it was entered for you automatically.

Step 4: Follow the prompts to finish the redemption process.


To install or reinstall Office

If you see the error This product key has already been used when you enter your product key on www.office.com/setup or Microsoft365.com/setup, this means your product key has already been redeemed and is no longer needed.

Instead, use your Microsoft account to sign in to account.microsoft.com and install your Office product.


Microsoft HUP

These steps apply only to Office Professional Plus, Visio Professional, or Project Professional.

Step 1: Start an Office app, like Word, Project, or Visio, depending on your purchase.

Step 2: In the Sign in to set up Office window, select I don't want to sign in or create an account (it's a small link at the bottom of the window).

Step 3: Enter your Office product key, without hyphens. If you don't have your key, see get your HUP product key.

Microsoft Store

Step 1: Go to www.microsoftstore.com and sign in (upper right-hand corner) with the Microsoft account that you used to buy Office.

Step 2: After you sign in, select your name in the upper right-hand corner, and then select Order History.

Step 3: Locate the Office one-time purchase or individual Office app, and then select Install Office to view your product key (this doesn't actually install Office).

Step 4: Select Install Office again in the window where the product key appears.

Step 5: On the Hi. Let's get started page, follow the prompts to sign in again and associate your product with your Microsoft account.


Office 2010 or Office 2011 for Mac

Step 1: Go to https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/office

Step 2: Enter your Office product key without hyphens, and then select Verify.

Step 3: Follow the prompts to finish the download process.


Microsoft 365 Business Standard

Step 1: Go to https://microsoft365.com/setupbusiness

Step 2: Enter Office product key without hyphens, and then select Next.

Step 3: Follow the prompts to finish the redemption and setup process.
