Dr. Oliver Fabert

I am a member of the tenured faculty at the Department of Mathematics of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and part of the research groups on dynamical systems as well as on geometry and topology. I will also be part of the newly launched Center for Topology & Applications Amsterdam (CTA^2). Further I am chair of the program committee for the BSc and MSc programs. In 2014 I received my habilitation from the University of Hamburg, and in 2022 I have been one of three finalists for the university teaching award.

Currently I am supervising Dr. Niek Lamoree (former PhD student), Ronen Brilleslijper M.A. (PhD student), Victor Ploeg B.A. (MSc student), Elizaveta Kassab (BSc student). They are partly funded by my NWO TOP2 grant "Pseudoholomorphic curve methods for Hamiltonian PDE".

In my research I use methods from analysis, geometry and topology in order to establish the existence of solutions of (partial) differential equations in mathematical physics. My current work centers around the generalization of the J-holomorphic curve methods of symplectic geometry from classical (Hamiltonian) mechanics to other branches of mathematical physics such as classical field theories, statistical mechanics and quantum theory.
