ODS Chess

ODS Chess, hosted at Old Donation School, is a pay to play afterschool activity hosted by the Hampton Roads Chess Association. It is a yearlong competitive chess program with chess training by professional coaches. Click the chess information link for costs and participation requirements. This is an in-demand program; spaces are limited and fill quickly.

The Brickell Academy PTA and Old Donation School will sponsor separate FREE chess activities as part of their afterschool clubs' program. These clubs are not associated with ODS Chess. Look for registration information on these programs once school begins via school communications.

The ODS Chess Program is open to Monday - Friday academic students of the Brickell Academy at Old Donation School in grades 3-8. Please note that the program is organized by the Hampton Roads Chess Association (HRCA). It is not sponsored by Old Donation School (ODS) or the Brickell Academy PTA.

HRCA is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all fees collected go back to fulfilling our mission of promoting the life benefits of chess in the Hampton Roads region. We strive to keep our rates as low as possible and offer financial assistance or payment plans if needed. HRCA instructors are professional chess coaches, who are fully background checked.

Registration Info

General Registration for chess students for 2025-2026 will open at 8 pm on August 27th and will close on August 29th at 8pm, or earlier if the program fills. Selection to the program is first come, space available. Spaces are limited and fill quickly. Submission of registration does not constitute acceptance to the program. A confirmation email from ODSchess@gmail.com will be sent by September 1st.

Registration is not complete until payment is made directly to HRCA through their online portal. A registration link will be sent in the acceptance email. Selection to the ODS Chess program is on a first come, space available basis and is made by HRCA staff. The ODS Administration has NO role in the selection process.
