Hello, my name is Gaye and I work at the New South Wales Schoolhouse Museum.
I love old objects and I'm going to show you some of my collection of objects that I have at home. All these objects relate to what children wrote with at school.
First of all we have a slate board here and children did their work onto a slate board before they wrote it into their exercise books. They wrote with a slate pencil.
Children also wrote with pen and ink into their exercise books. They had an ink pen and needed to have a pot of ink.
I love these little ink pots. They're all the same but they're all a little bit different. They're made of clay - ceramic. People used to put a cork into the top of them to stop the ink from drying out. This one is an ink well that sat into a student's desk.
I bet you're wondering what this box is here. You can open up the lid and you can see that it's a pencil box. There was a place for your pencils, for your nibs, for your rubber, for your pencil sharpener and then there was a second layer to keep extra pens.
What do you like to collect at home?
