Hello, I'd like to show you a variety of reading cards and games that we have in our collection. They were used in classrooms in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Reading cards were made from cardboard and came in boxes. they covered skills such as word and sound recognition, word meanings through picture and word matching, phonics and word and sentence making.
Students use reading cards to develop and practise their reading skills.
We find this set really interesting because they've been hand coloured, mounted on cardboard, the edges have been bound and the cards have been varnished for protection.
