Hello, my name is Tess and I'd like to show you our Quick Print Hand Duplicator.
The hand duplicators were used for printing into books and on paper. To use the duplicator the teacher would paint the fabric pad with black ink then the stencil was attached and then the duplicator was pressed onto the paper leaving the print.
This one was donated by a teacher who also kept the original paperwork. By the stencil attached, and the receipts, we know that this duplicator was used from 1936 to 1960.
One way the teacher made the stencil was to type the information, using a typewriter, straight onto the stencil.
The other way the teacher made the stencil was to place the stencil onto a hard board. The teacher would use the pointed stylus to handwrite, trace or draw straight onto the stencil.
The teacher could draw maps or write straight onto the stencil. The handheld duplicator was promoted as a time-saving teacher's aid. It could print drawings, poems and instructions for the students as well as notes for parents.
It was ideal for short print runs.
End of transcript.
