This is it: the pinnacle of dorm living at Oberlin. Located across the street from both the Conservatory and King and being just down the road from downtown, Talcott is truly at the heart of Oberlin's campus. Its castle-like features, beautiful rooms and access to the rest of campus makes Talcott the most sought-after dorm on campus. It has an occupancy of 80 students.
Talcott is great place to live to avoid noise. The dorm is only available to upperclassmen and according to an RA in the dorm, people are generally respectful and the sound doesn't leak dramatically.
Talcott is home to a lot of conservatory students and thus the chief noise complaint tends to be people playing instruments in their rooms despite this being against RedEd's rules. However, this is not constant or widespread. Talcott's rooms contain their noise well. An issue that was brought up to me was the presence of potentially noise pets in this dorm; this seems to be an issue mainly in the first few weeks as the animals become accustomed to their new environments and hasn't been a concern since. The open double issue exists here also but since it is upperclassmen only, there's a smaller chance you'll be with someone you don't know.
