East Hall is located on north campus, cushioned between substance-free Barnard Hall and Burton Hall. Conveniently located across the street from Oberlin's beloved Stevenson Dining Halll, East is made up of quads, singles and divided doubles (divided doubles are doubles that are divided into two seperate "rooms" by a wood wall that has a closet and drawers on one side as well as a door to get between rooms). East is a popular choice for athletes and those who want to live on north campus with the added beneift of getting to have a roommate without always having to live in the same space as them.
East is known for having a rampant party culture; there are frequent gatherings in rooms on every night of the week and loud parties on the weekend in both the divided doubles and quads. Because of this, East is not a desirable dorm for those who want to live in a peaceful environment. The walls are not effectively soundproofed and the design of the building makes it so that in each room you can hear clearly into a room either above or below. Similarly, the divided doubles do not provide as much privacy as they seem like they would: everything is audible from room to room and thus you will not ever get complete privacy from your roommate.
