Burton Hall overlooks Oberlin's north campus quad; situated between Noah Hall, Zechiel Hall, Langston Hall, Bailey Hall, and East Hall, Burton is rignt at the center of north campus life and its front tables are a popular spot for students to hang out. The building has an occupancy of 185 students, is a mixture of open doubles and singles, and is one of Oberlin's more popular dorms due to its clean feel and prime north campus location.
The people I spoke to about living in Burton seemed to have a relatively good experience with noise; while it is not perfect noise-wise, most seem to have a perfectly livable experience.
The first noise concern with living in Burton comes from the nature of open double rooms. One person I talked to complained about having a noisy roommate with whom they were not particularly friendly with - open doubles are not particularly appropriate spaces for someone to be avoiding noise since often daily activities such as getting dressed and eating are noisy. Furthermore, Burton is not exempt from the party culture that exists in dorms such as Langston and East. On weekends and Wednesday night, many rooms are packed to the brim with students enjoying themselves; however, Burton's soundproofing, while not perfect, contains a lot of the sound and thus this doesn't seem to be a huge issue but instead something to look out for.
