If you want a direct replacement for the lighting circuit on your 2005-2010 Dodge Ram or Dakota, choose Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch; if you need to restore reliable beam selection on a vintage Ford E-350 Econoline from the late 80s, choose Fwyccefy Headlight Switch. These two components serve distinct eras of American trucking and are not interchangeable, yet both solve the same fundamental problem: getting your lights working again when the original switch fails.
• Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch: Its biggest strength is precise OEM part number matching (HLS1349/SW5317) for mid-2000s Chrysler group trucks, but it requires an exact 6-pin connector match to function at all. This pick is for owners of Dodge Dakota, Durango, and Ram 1500/2500/3500 models who need a drop-in replacement that mirrors the factory design.
• Fwyccefy Headlight Switch: Its primary advantage is restoring functionality to aging Ford E-Series vehicles by replacing sticky or intermittent internal contacts with fresh circuit switching parts. This pick is for enthusiasts keeping 1987-1990 Ford E-350 Club Wagons on the road who need a direct fit for inboard mounting.
• The Trade-off: You cannot swap these units; one is engineered for the specific pin layout of 2005-2011 Mopar trucks, while the other is built exclusively for the 1987-1990 Ford E-350 platform. Choosing the wrong one results in a part that simply will not plug into your vehicle's harness.
This unit is designed specifically for drivers of 2005 through 2010 Dodge Dakota, Durango, and various Ram pickup models including the 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 series. It also fits the 2006 Mitsubishi Raider and the 2011 Ram Dakota. If you own one of these vehicles, this switch is your path to fixing a broken headlight control system without needing to modify your dashboard or wiring harness. The product is marketed as a direct replacement for several specific OEM part numbers, including 56049637AC, 56049637AD, HLS1349, 1S7782, and SW5317. This level of specificity suggests it is engineered to fit the physical dimensions and electrical interface of the original equipment exactly.
The core utility here is reliability in the face of worn-out components. When the original dimmer switch fails, headlights often become stuck on high beams, fail to turn off, or refuse to activate low beams. This Obaee unit promises to replace those failed functions. It includes the necessary hardware to connect to your existing harness, provided the critical 6-pin configuration matches your current setup. The package contains one single headlight dimmer switch, which simplifies the installation process since there are no extra wires or adapters to manage. For the owner of a mid-2000s truck, this is a straightforward "buy and install" solution that restores the factory lighting logic.
However, this product is strictly for those who can verify their pin count. The manufacturer emphasizes that without an exact match of the 6 pins, the switch will not be compatible. This is a crucial constraint for anyone considering this purchase. If your original switch has been modified, damaged, or replaced previously with a non-standard unit, this Obaee switch might not work even if the part numbers look similar. It is also important to note that this is a single-unit replacement; if you have multiple switches or a complex multi-switch panel, you may need to source additional components. But for a standard headlight dimmer failure in the specified vehicle years, this is a targeted fix that addresses the mechanical and electrical connection points directly.

The Fwyccefy Headlight Switch targets a very different demographic: owners of vintage commercial vans, specifically the Ford E-350 Econoline Club Wagon manufactured between 1987 and 1990. These older vehicles often suffer from the degradation of plastic components and the oxidation of internal metal contacts over time. As the switch ages, the button actuation can become sticky, loose, or intermittent, leading to unpredictable lighting behavior. This product is designed to reverse that trend by providing fresh internal switching parts that close and open the lighting circuits reliably. It is a direct fit solution intended to sit in the existing plate opening and join the harness without requiring custom fabrication.
Functionally, this switch handles the basic but essential task of turning vehicle lighting circuits on and off from the driver's position. It manages the beam selection, allowing the driver to toggle between low and high beams. The internal mechanism is described as a circuit switch, meaning it physically connects and disconnects the flow of current to the chosen lamps. This is a purely mechanical restoration of a function that modern electronics often handle via modules, but in these older Ford vans, it remains a direct electrical switch. The design focuses on the inboard position, ensuring it integrates seamlessly into the dashboard area where the original switch resided.
For the buyer of this specific unit, the value proposition is clear: it extends the life of a classic van. A sticky or failing light switch is more than an annoyance; it is a safety hazard, especially during night driving or poor weather conditions. By replacing the old switch with this new unit, you restore the ability to control your lights with certainty. The packaging confirms it is a single unit designed for direct replacement, meaning you do not need to hunt for adapters or extra connectors. However, buyers must respect the fitment data. While the brand offers support for application details, the responsibility lies with the user to verify that their 1987-1990 E-350 matches the specifications before ordering. It is a specialized part for a niche market of vintage truck and van restorers who need to keep their fleet running safely.
• Best for Mid-2000s Mopar Trucks → Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch: If you drive a Dodge Dakota, Durango, or Ram 1500/2500/3500 from 2005-2011, this is the only logical choice. The Fwyccefy unit will not fit your vehicle's harness or dash.
• Best for Late-80s Ford Vans → Fwyccefy Headlight Switch: If you own a Ford E-350 Econoline Club Wagon from 1987-1990, this is the correct component. The Obaee switch lacks the specific form factor and connector type required for this Ford model.
• Pin Count Precision Required → Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch: This product explicitly demands a 6-pin verification. If your truck has a different pin count, this switch is useless. The Fwyccefy unit does not list pin counts in its description, implying a standard fitment for its target era.
• Restoring Sticky Controls → Fwyccefy Headlight Switch: The primary use case here is replacing switches that have become loose or intermittent due to age. The description highlights "fresh switch" benefits for restoring reliable control.
• OEM Part Number Matching → Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch: This unit lists multiple specific OEM replacements (HLS1349, SW5317), offering peace of mind for owners looking for exact factory equivalents.
• Beam Selection Focus → Both: Both units handle beam selection, but the Obaee is a dimmer switch for newer trucks, while the Fwyccefy is a general headlight switch for older vans.
• Package Simplicity → Both: Both come as a single unit count, making them easy to identify and order without confusion about missing parts.
• Vehicle Age Specificity → Critical Factor: The deciding factor is almost entirely the year and make of your vehicle. There is no overlap in compatibility between these two products.
In my opinion, neither product is universally superior because they serve completely different generations of American trucks. However, if I had to choose based on the clarity of the engineering and the specific problem it solves, I would lean toward the Obaee Headlight Dimmer Switch for its detailed compatibility list. The explicit mention of multiple OEM part numbers and the strict 6-pin requirement shows a manufacturer that understands the precision needed for modern vehicle electronics. It reduces the guesswork for the buyer significantly. That said, if you are driving a 1989 Ford E-350, the Obaee switch is irrelevant, and the Fwyccefy unit becomes the only viable option. For the rainy season, having a reliable switch is non-negotiable; ensure you buy the one that matches your VIN, whether it is the Obaee for your Dodge/Ram or the Fwyccefy for your Ford.
No. You must check your original switch thoroughly before ordering.
The product information lists the unit count as 1 and describes it as a direct fit for the existing plate opening. It appears to be a standalone switch that joins the existing harness without extra adapters mentioned in the specs.
Using it outside this range is not supported by the provided fitment data.
The manufacturer notes that if the headlight switch has any problems, you can contact them for a satisfactory solution. However, the most common issue is incorrect pin matching, so verifying your 6-pin configuration is the first step to avoid returns.
