Knoxville IONS Community Group
WELCOME TO THE KNOXVILLE IONS COMMUNITY GROUP WEB PAGE!
The Knoxville IONS Community Group was formed in January, 2004, by members of the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) living in the Knoxville, Tennessee, area.
The vision for creating the Institute of Noetic Sciences came in 1971. Nations throughout the world had galvanized around the exciting frontier of space exploration. The potential for scientific understanding of our world seemed unlimited to a naval air captain named Edgar Mitchell. He was a pragmatic young test pilot, engineer and scientist; a mission to the moon on Apollo 14 was his "dream come true." Space exploration symbolized for Dr. Mitchell what it did for his nation as a whole — technological triumph of historical proportions, unprecedented mastery of the world in which we live, and extraordinary potentials for new discoveries.
But it was the trip home that Mitchell recalls most. Sitting in the cramped cabin of the space capsule, he saw planet Earth floating freely in the vastness of space. He was engulfed by a profound sense of universal connectedness-an epiphany. In Mitchell's own words: "The presence of divinity became almost palpable, and I knew that life in the universe was not just an accident based on random processes. . . . The knowledge came to me directly."
After his safe return "home," Mitchell sought out others who likewise felt the need for an expanded, more inclusive view of reality. They resolved to explore the inner world of human experience with the same rigor and critical thinking that made it possible for Apollo 14 to journey to the moon and back. In 1973, this small group of explorers founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences-derived from the Greek word nous, meaning something close to "intuitive ways of knowing." (Dr. Mitchell's story is told in the book The Way of the Explorer: An Apollo Astronaut's Journey Through the Material and Mystical Worlds).
Community Groups are self-organizing, self-directing, voluntary associations of members. While IONS assists these groups in many ways, each one operates independently of the institute and is legally and financially responsible for its own activities.
The Knoxville IONS Community Group serves members and friends of the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS), a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education on consciousness, human potential, and personal and social transformation. The Knoxville IONS Community Group is wholly independent of the Institute of Noetic Sciences and is legally and financially responsible for its own activities.
Views expressed by speakers, workshop Facilitator, and participants do not necessarily reflect the views of the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS).
Although it is not a requirement to be a member of IONS to attend our meetings, we do encourage support of IONS through membership. Please view the benefits of membership at the IONS website and while there, browse the web site to discover the abundant amount of available information.

The next meeting of the Knoxville IONS Community Group is scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2020, 3:00 - 5:00 PM, OASIS Institute.
At our upcoming meeting, our presenter will be Terry Jeanne, Master of Science Oriental Medicine, Licensed Acupuncturist. Her topic is "All Roads Lead to Consciousness."
Meridian “tapping” and TAT(R) are two acupressure techniques that combine a powerful access to consciousness, as it is processed through human bodies, with the power of consciousness as it emerges in readily occurring language and thoughts. How important is thought or the language we choose when we conceptualize our awareness? How do invisible dynamics of the body support us in understanding the nature of reality? Exploring these processes experientially can precipitate inner clarity, not dissimilar to effects of meditation, lending insight in answer to such questions and experience.
This presentation will be a brief intro to some aspects of the two approaches and their simple components, followed by some experiential teaching applications and then, as the group desires, we can play with various applications upon whatever areas of interest we are inspired to delve into as individuals and on the whole.
Facilitated by a certified TAT(R) professional group facilitator who also obtained an Advanced Certificate in EFT after initially training with Dr. Larry Burk, MD in 2006.
Terry Jeanne, Master of Science Oriental Medicine and Licensed Acupuncturist, has performed well over 10,000 assessments and procedures to help people address almost every kind of health concern. She obtained her graduate degree in Oriental Medicine through a 3,000 hour masters program with additional clinics that included a full-year externship in a HealthSouth Rehabilitation hospital. Over the last six years she has been working for a multidisciplinary medical team here in Knoxville but actually first did this as an Expressive Therapist in her very first professional job—before integrative medicine was even termed Integrative Medicine.
She’s had a lifelong passion for understanding the nature of reality especially surrounding optimal human transformation. Recently she completed the MC Squared course at the iconic Robert Monroe Institute in Faber, Virginia and has studied with the International Academy of Consciousness in the past. She also has a special interest in thanatology and is a certified hospice acupuncture provider.
Please join us for our first meeting of 2020, Saturday, January 25, 3:00 - 5:00 PM.
