Option AccurateRate (when active) can significantly decrease performance because a lot of synchronization between download threads is required. If you need an accurate speed indication you should definitely test how it affect your download speed. On a desktop computer with CPU you may not notice any difference but on a slow NAS the option can decrease download speed two or three times!

If you have more than one physical hard drive (or SSD) you can significantly improve unpack speed by using option InterDir. But even with one physical hard drive having a separate intermediate directory is recommended for better distinguishing of finished and active downloads.

Its a fairly stout server quad core i5, 16GB ram, 512 SSD for which I use as my intermediate drive. I've made the following tweaks but still can't seem to maximize my speeds. My desktop can easily cruise along at 70 MBs so I'd like to get similar here.

Usenet transfers hovers around 30MB/s speed, regardless of server setting and I cannot find out why. File transfers between PC and unraid goes ~100MB/s, so I'm assuming it's not caused by network or wires.

The reason I mentioned it may be unraid's how it handles connecting to external network, is because my VMs would get 350 mbps on speedtest whereas my desktop gets 750mbps (even though my desktop is actually further from the router.

Well after messing with it for the better part of today, the best I could get sustained with sabnzbd in a docker is 30 - switched over to nzbget and have sustained speeds over 60MB/s which is about max for my provider. Looks like after 11 years using sabnzbd, I'll have to switch over.

For some reason the container image has a different set of default settings than the installation script that you get from nzbget.net. In the download queue settings make sure that you have a setting for ArticleCache (default is 100 MB) as well as WriteBuffer (default is 1024 kb). My container had blank entries for both of these. Before settings changes my downloads were limited to about 10MB/sec. After adding these entries downloads accelerated to 60MB/sec. I hope that helps.

In my experience, to repair and unpack is more of a function of the CPU power than that of the writing speed. When I switched from a Celeron CPU, to a double Xeon $90 CPU, the speed increased significantly.

Personally, I wouldn't splash out on a SSD purely for this. I use a spinning cache and can't say the unpack times are unreasonable. But it will help with speed if the rate limiting step is the disk IO, it won't help with speed if the rate limiting step is CPU horsepower.

True, a block account is an option. But this isn't any help if a small .nfo file is missing that is in the nzb. sabnzb wants to repair this, taking quit some time and loading the cpu where nzbget ignores the .nfo file and starts unpacking. There might be a switch in sabnzb to do the same but I haven't found it yet.

Keep in mind that the thing that will impact your download speeds the most is your Usenet provider. Unlimited speeds and plentiful connections are the foundation for high-speed downloads.

I have been loving our Orbi RBK852 setup at home, great coverage and ease of use but I have been noticing some slow download speeds when using NZB files to download various types of files. I don't see this issue when using for example other means of filed download or direct download in the browser.

When doing a speed test, It always reaches the max speeds for download and upload(d:600Mbps u:40Mbps), both wired and through WIFI. But when using my desktop, wired connection and NZBget to download items, the speed hang at around 25MB/s and stay there.

To me it looks like the Orbi systems is throttling the desktop speeds in favor of other devices, perhaps not recognizing the type of connection/download. However when using some other download client on the same desktop and same devices in the network, the tor-rent client is able to reach speeds of 60+MB/s.

Just wanted to add the resolution to this topic, it seems that the slow download speeds were on my end. I recently switched to windows 11 and it did not cross my mind, so after doing some research and some tests, I reinstalled the lan drivers on my desktop and all of an sudden, the speeds were capped.

The thing is that using the same usenet providers and nzb downloader with my pervious router caused no issues. I could easily reach almost the max speeds. I have of course also tried different providers and downloaders in combination with the Orbi and all have throttled speeds. To me, like you mentioned, it sounds like the Orbi is not detecting the high traffic created from the nzb downloaders as priority. So not sure how NZB or UseNet forums could help here.

I updated the satellite and the router to the newest firmware versions but that didn't help, it even hurt its performance. The download speeds are even slower and the desktop is not able to hold the slowed down speeds for a long time. It ramps up to 25MB/s and drops to zero and repeat.
