Academic Practice Track
Goals and Objectives:
Foster a greater appreciation and understanding of Medical Toxicology as it pertains to the practice of Emergency Medicine.
Provide mentorship from Medical Toxicology faculty and opportunity to participate in longitudinal scholarly projects.
Prepare interested residents for application to Medical Toxicology Fellowships
Required Activities:
Attend a WCMC consult service meeting quarterly to discuss interesting consult cases
Attend 2 NYC PCC Consultants Conference per year in addition to tox rotation (virtual or in person)
Participate in 2 ACMT/AACT toxicology webinars year (ACMT Case Conference, Grand Rounds, Addiction Conference, Forensic Conference etc)
Tox Education Activities - complete 2 educational projects/year from the list below with mentorship from toxicology faculty
Write and help to facilitate a SIM case to be used during morning report at WCMC or CUMC
Present a morning report on a toxicology subject
Author a clinical guideline for WCMC consultation service
Provide a lecture to Sub-I’s rotating on EM rotation
Author a blog post, podcast or other form of digital scholarship with faculty editor
Author an article in EMRA Resident Magazine, ALiEM/ACMT Tox Visual Pearls
Author 10 questions with answer explanations for ToxRunner Qbank
Tox case of the month
Complete X-waiver training
Attend Toxicology Journal Club
Complete a longitudinal research project or QI project with a faculty member
Bimonthly meeting with tox faculty to discuss tox topic – readings in EM texts, Tox Text (ie Goldfranks), FOAMED sites
Optional but encouraged activities:
Join a national or regional committee (ie. EMRA toxicology section)
Help to create a combined NYPEM residency toxicology online resource (either on nexus or another site which we can explore)
Bronx Zoo Field Trip (annually vs. biannually depending on interest)

Attend Toxicology Conference(s)-especially helpful for residents pursuing a toxicology fellowship for networking. ACMT Spring conference often has a resident track and a fellowship director meet and greet. NACCT Fall conference is a good place to network a month or two before match.
Track Directors
Dr. Elissa Moore
Dr. Elizabeth (Elissa) Moore is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. She attended the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY, completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Bethlehem, PA, and her Medical Toxicology fellowship at the University of Arizona - Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Moore served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine at Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California/ Los Angeles County Medical Center.
Dr. Moore has an interest in critical care, envenomations, gender equity in medicine and a passion for making medical toxicology education more accessible. She is the producer and co-host of the Tox in Ten Podcast and co-founder of Women in Toxicology (WiT). She is board certified in Emergency Medicine and Medical Toxicology
Dr. Jason Chu
Dr Jason Chu is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. He completed his training in Emergency Medicine at the University Medical Center at Stony Brook and a Fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital Center/New York City Poison Control Center. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Chu was faculty at the Mount Sinai St Luke's-Roosevelt Emergency Medicine residency prior to joining the Department of Emergency Medicine at CUMC.
Dr Chu has studied novel antidotal therapies for various overdoses including intravenous lipid emulsions and has a passion for toxicology education for all learner from medical students, residents, advanced practice providers and fellows.
