Academic Practice Track
To provide formal exposure and training in medical education to senior residents who are interested in pursuing an academic career.
To enhance the residency experience through the creation of a subspecialty training track in Medical Education. This novel track will be tailored to the participants’ individual goals in learning educational theory and conducting medical education research with medical students, residents, or ancillary providers.
Goals
1. To exposure learners to teaching experiences in a variety of environments
2. Research education in medical education
3. Administrative experience in curriculum design, residency education, and/or at the medical school level
4. Formal mentoring from track leaders
5. To conduct a medical education research project in area of learner’s specific interest
6. To improve and expand some aspect of our residency’s delivery of medical education overall (e.g. Journal club, conference didactics, etc)
Expected Participation During 4 years
Help with orientation planning for incoming interns
Med ed grand rounds at departmental conference
Med ed journal club
Involvement in a scholarly project related to medical education
Participation in ongoing research projects within emergency department in medical education
Dr. Kaushal Shah is an assistant professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine and serves as vice-chair of Education for WCM Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Shah is also a board-certified emergency physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
He received his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Shah completed his emergency medicine residency training at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Shah held positions as vice-chair of Education and residency program director for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
He is a national leader in Emergency Medicine education and has extensive experience in undergraduate education and faculty development. Dr. Shah has researched and published extensively on the subjects of trauma and education.
Dr. Di Coneybeare is an assistant professor at Columbia University Medical Center and serves as the assistant fellowship director of Emergency Ultrasound.
She received her bachelor's degree at the University of California Berkeley, then transplanted to New York for her medical degree at Stony Brook University School of Medicine. She trained at Bellevue Hospital/NYU for residency and stayed on for an ultrasound fellowship and concurrently earned her MHPE degree from Maastricht University.
Her master's thesis explores motivations and adoption of innovations. She remains passionate about emergency clinical ultrasound and creating interactive learning environments.
