Academic Practice Track
Geriatric emergency medicine (GEM) is an emerging subspeciality of EM that has been growing significantly over the last 15 years. As the percentage of older adults who present to the ED continues to climb, it is increasingly important that emergency physicians develop the skill set and knowledge base to optimally manage the complex medical and social needs of this vulnerable population. Residents enrolled in this track will gain further exposure to the clinical, research, academic, and administrative aspects of GEM through hands-on experience. Our goal is to provide residents with opportunities to publish scholarly work, present at conferences, educate their colleagues, and become involved with GEM committees at the local, regional, and national levels. Graduates of this track will be better equipped to care for this special population and will be well-suited to pursue a Geriatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship after residency.
