JáTtik Clark

 NWRTEC is extremely pleased to announce JáTtik Clark, Principal Tubist of the Oregon Symphony, as our featured performing artist!

JáTtik Clark began his professional music career by securing the Principal Tubist position with the Oregon Symphony in the Spring of 1999. Since that time, he has steadily become a frequently engaged and highly regarded orchestral, chamber and solo musician while also cultivating and enjoying additional success as a teacher, instructor and clinician at the local, regional and national levels.

In addition to the Oregon Symphony, JáTtik also currently serves as Co-Principal Tubist of the Grand Teton Music Festival and Principal Tubist of the Oregon Bach and Sunriver Music Festivals. As an orchestral tubist, he has been invited to perform with many of the nation's leading orchestras and symphonies, including Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Grant Park, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Diego, St. Louis, Seattle, Utah and the LA Philharmonic.  

JáTtik also has a varied and extensive list of chamber music collaborations, performances and recordings with groups such as Chamber Music Northwest, Pink Martini, Big Horn Brass, Third Angle Music Ensemble, the Oregon Symphony Brass Quintet, the Eastman Music Company All-Star Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. He is also a founding member of the Rose City Brass Quintet, a professional chamber ensemble dedicated to performing challenging and engaging brass quintet repertoire, some of which can be sampled on their recently released inaugural album, DisQuiet.  

 

JáTtik has been featured and recorded as a solo artist on many occasions. This includes several features with the Oregon Symphony over his tenure, with the latest being the West Coast premiere of the Concerto for Tubist and Orchestra by Wynton Marsalis. He has also enjoyed multiple solo engagements with the Grand Teton Music Festival, the Portland Columbia Symphony, and the Vancouver Symphony (WA). Additional solo performances and recordings include the Salem Chamber Orchestra, the Corvallis-OSU Symphony and OSU Wind Ensemble, and the "Pershing’s Own" United States Army Band in Washington D.C.  

 

As a teacher, JáTtik holds the position of Applied Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Portland State University, Lewis and Clark College, Reed College, the University of Portland and Mt. Hood Community College. He is also a Co-Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Oregon State University. In addition, he also finds time to maintain a private teaching studio of successful, talented, active and enthusiastic high school and adult students.  

 

JáTtik earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance (cum laude) from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His primary teachers are Timothy J. Northcut (CCM) and Dr. Ronald Davis (USC), with additional inspiration and instruction from Gene Pokorny, Floyd Cooley, James Jenkins, Michael Grose, Steve Norrell, and Michael Mulcahy.
