Alberto Blanco Ultracyclist and Endurance Athlete:

I have been racing bicycles for over twenty years. I was part of EIDE and ESPA sports programs in Cuba and was selected to race in three national championships, earning a silver medal and a 4th place in the road race.

I left Cuba and moved to the US, where I continue to follow my passion for the sport of cycling. I have won many races and state championships and have raced all over the country, but I found my real love in ultracycling and ultra endurance sports.

After winning the Sebring 24 hour race, riding 450 miles non-stop, I entered the 3000 mile non-stop Race Across America (RAAM), crossing the country in 9 days 7 hours, winning Rookie of the Year and placing 4th place overall despite getting injured with Shermer’s Neck in the first thousand miles of the race.

I’m currently coaching a fellow rider, Joe Frank, to compete in the 2016 Race Across the West (RAW) and I’ll be his Crew Chief to get him to the finish line in Durango, CO. I’m also coaching Tommy McGough, who I have on a year-long program to race in the 2016 24hr World Championships in Borrego Springs, CA. I brought Tommy to 12hr Worlds this year and he ended up riding over 200 miles in 12 hours and placing third place in his category (55+) in his first ultracycling race. I have other athletes I’ve worked with for over 10 years.Training and giving advice is my way to share my knowledge and expertise with others.

On fun training rides, I’ve ridden from Seattle to San Francisco along the Washington, Oregon and California coastline, the North Cascades Loop over Stevens Pass, Washington Pass and Rainy Pass, and from Miami to New York.

NWbiketours goals are to share with fellow riders the roads I ride in training and the many places I’ve visited. I take the logistics and planning off your hands so you can ride, train and enjoy the places we visit. Just the way I was taught in Cuba, every training ride has an objective and should be enjoyable, with daily emphasis on different aspects of cycling.

Most of my tours are limited to 12 riders so I’m able to have 1 on 1 time with every rider, from setting you up in the right position on the bike to pointing out bad habits acquired through the years that could lead to injuries or impede your performance. We work on climbing / descending skills, learn proper techniques to feel more confident riding with a group of riders, practice proper drafting depending on wind direction, and work on our nutrition and hydration protocols.

Safety is numero uno for me, so I only bring my tours on roads and places I know to be safe for everyone to ride so you can enjoy your cycling vacation.
