Before the conference, I had not memorised the scripture in a very long time, and I had forgotten why I should do it. I am glad that this workshop motivated me to pick it up again. The Scripture Memory workshop was divided into two sections: Why- and How- to do scripture memory.
Specifically, I had two new takeaways from it. Why should I memorise scriptures? One reason is that the Holy Spirit speaks to us through the scriptures.
When can I memorise scriptures? I can do it in small pockets of time. The workshop leader showed us a video of other guys and girls in the Navigators giving their tips of when they do it. Other than memorising and reviewing on public transport, one of the Nav guys would even join a longer queue during lunch so that he had more time to review his scripture memory cards!
Scripture memory is like carving words into stone. I have to slowly chisel each word out letter by letter. And the result of it is permanent. This workshop gave me concrete ways to hit my target of memorising one verse a week, and now I can't wait to hear God's voice more clearly, to guide me at every moment of my day, just as what Psalm 119:105 says
