From the Prayer Workshop, I learnt to communicate my love to God and to build on my personal relationship with Him. Firstly, prayer is a privilege given by God through the gift of Christ, whom God sacrificed to make it possible for us to reach Him. Secondly, prayer is God’s command to us as we received this gift of salvation. This reflects the desire of God to communicate with us and to enable us to experience His grace through answered prayers.
Most of the time, I don’t see the need to pray, thinking that God already knew my inner thoughts. But clearly, God knows how to maintain a relationship more than we do, and that is through constant communication with Him.
Another reason that I don’t pray often is because praying feels dry to me and that I lack things to talk to God about. In the workshop, through the Prayer Hand illustration, I realized how much I lacked in praise and thanksgiving towards God. That is the reason why I felt that my prayers were dry. I need to first learn to reflect upon His love, how great He is and how He has helped me in my life, in order that my prayer becomes meaningful and useful, as I grow in my relationship with God. Prayer offers an opportunity for me to reflect how I have experienced His love, His greatness, and His help. As these praises are expressed in the form of prayers, they not only bring glory to God but also encourage us in our Christian journey. After all, in any relationships, it is always important to express my appreciation to the other party.
Knowing the importance of expressing my appreciation of His love in prayers, my application is to reflect and praise God on how I have enjoyed the gift of salvation, and to always remember His love for me by expressing them in my prayers daily.
