This course introduces students to the critical importance of marine conservation in sustaining biodiversity, livelihoods and ecosystem services globally. By exploring the challenges and opportunities faced by key marine habitats and the conservation of marine megafauna, students will gain insight into the interdisciplinary nature of marine conservation efforts. The course emphasizes the roles of diverse stakeholders, from local communities and government agencies to international organizations, NGOs, scientists, and the private sector. Through case studies, theoretical frameworks, and hands-on projects, students will learn how marine conservation initiatives can be strengthened through inclusive, community-based approaches and stakeholder engagement.
