This course merges humanities, sciences, and engineering to both to study and to preserve cultural and natural heritage. Using NUS Baba House as a case study, students will explore the future of Singapore’s architectural heritage by examining how environmental factors contribute to the decay of ornamentation and how these processes can be managed and celebrated through scientific and technological approaches. Through an interdisciplinary lens, the course brings together traditional materials, modern technologies, and nature-inspired innovations. In the process, students are encouraged to view preservation as a means of creating cultural value for future generations, adding meaning to the past.
