Society is highly dependent on its environment for all its needs (air, water, food, land), so it is important that society understands and regulates its impact on the environment to ensure sustainability. Students will learn the basic science that leads to the actions that society has taken to protect the environment and secure essential resources, as well as understand the economic, political, and legal considerations behind these actions. Consequently, students will be able to explain and appreciate the scientific rationale behind certain policies. This will equip students with the ability to formulate potential science-backed solutions to emerging environmental issues.
