About the Instructor
Prof is very passionate about the subject matter and constantly thinks of ways to blend course content with real-world application. She is also very sweet and bought treats for us at the end of the sem.
Content (Structure/Organization)
There is no clear divide between the first and second halves of the semester, each week covers a different idea like portrayal of women in the media, violence against women etc. Students prepare a presentation for each topic (similar to NGN) which builds on what Prof has shared about the topic.
Manageability of Workload
Grading: participation (10%), midterm (20%), presentation (20%), final project proposal (10%), final project presentation (10%), final project submission (30%)
Quite light up until week 8 or so when the final project starts. The final project can be quite intense because you have a week to draft a comprehensive proposal. Then maybe 3-4 weeks to execute the presentation, the final product and update the proposal/slides according to feedback. And as I elaborate in the "attaining grades" section, quite a lot of effort is required to do well.
Ease/Difficulty of Attaining Grades
My advice is to go above and beyond for the final project. Treat it like a mini-IEx and less like a deliverable where you focus on content. Do justify why you have made certain choices with regards to medium of communication, outreach strategy, tone of communication. Visual aids like prototyping outreach materials are very helpful.
I believe this iteration was the first time you can choose between either a campaign and a podcast, and I highly recommend you choose a campaign. From my observation, podcasts are harder to communicate visual prototypes or outreach strategies for, and is dependent on whether you can find the right guests.
Learning Value/Recommendation
The course is quite case study-driven so you get a comprehensive perspective of how women's health issues manifest in different societies and are communicated to us via the media and our peers. An office visit and guest speakers also help to further enrich understanding.
Additional Comments:
To get as much out of the course as possible, do share your perspectives and ask questions, it helps make the class much more lively

About the Instructor
Mariana Losada is an amazing amazing prof
Very knowledgable and highly competent individual! She's great at explaining things patiently to an audience whom begin from different knowledge start-points, and is great at steering class discussions to where she wants the class to go! So even if you know absolutely nothing about Women's health I guarantee you you'll not feel intimidated by her at all! super sweet and approachable and doesn't mind engaging in convos with you, no matter how small! (she also loves to play videos and clips in class ;p)
An added bonus is she can comfortably claim the title of Mrs Worldwide in terms of connections -- genuinely knows everyone in every corner of the world (which is a perk of being an international diplomat)
A minor trade-off would be that she thinks very highly of everyone and thus may have higher-than-average expectations for her students, but would recommend her as ur prof a thousand times over!!! (unless you're a slacker; then please don't)
Content (Structure/Organization)
Weekly 4hr lessons are generally organised as such: Quick check-in with pre-readings > Introduction to week's topic > Case studies > Class activity > Break > Events such as field trips, or Group presentations
The course does cover an immense amount of content, slightly skewed more towards the quantitative side of things (as a way to contextualise
Topics covered include: Women's physical , ,mental, social and economic health, Diplomacy, Femtech, etc etc.
But mind you, the structure of a 4hour continuous lesson (warranted with a half hr break in-between) is not for the faint of heart... it can be rather exhausting... It's certainly convenient for your timetable but unfortunately does a disservice for your concentration. Not to worry bc the class is actually really fun!
Manageability of Workload
Workload is manageable. There's an open-ended midterm exam and a group project where you have to work in [groups of three or four to] design a campaign linked to a women's health topic.
Ease/Difficulty of Attaining Grades
2-3hrs weekly for pre-readings
1 Class presentation
1 Mid-term paper
1 Final Proposal for a campaign
Overall... a low 3/5 in amount of time spent.
Learning Value/Recommendation
Still pending results for my assignments, will update with the final grade when possible!
Additional Comments
4.5/5! My personal takeaways were peak

Manageability of Workload
Workload is manageable. There's an open-ended midterm exam and a group project where you have to work in [groups of three or four to] design a campaign linked to a women's health topic.
Ease/Difficulty of Attaining Grades
Grading depends on how well you understand the content and concepts covered in class, in order to weave it into your midterm exam and project.
Learning Value/Recommendation
I found this course extremely insightful as it covered Women's Health issues that society considers taboo and rarely discusses. The course provided me with case studies from all over the world to mull over and converse about with my classmates.
