Nuno Mendes, born in 1974 in Porto, is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, sound engineer, record collector, DJ, mathematician, and software programmer. He trained in classical guitar at the Porto Conservatory of Music and in electric guitar and piano at the Porto Jazz School. Mendes began his musical career as a member of the Orquestra Orff do Porto.
As a teenager, he founded the band Bluesie, which performed at the 1st Rally Jazz of Porto in 1988. He made a name for himself as the founding guitarist of Bandemónio (1991) and later as a musician and producer for numerous musical projects. Along with Eurico Amorim, Gon, Marta Ren, and Miguel Barros, he co-founded The Bombazines, where he performed as an electronic percussionist and DJ. He also collaborated with Manel Cruz on the production of Foge Foge Bandido's album, overseeing the recordings, mixing, and live musical direction.
Mendes was a music teacher at various schools and academies for 20 years and served as the pedagogical director at Escola de Música S.B.N. for 5 years. He has conducted numerous workshops on computer music and several masterclasses on mixing and mastering.
As a sound engineer, he has regularly performed on national and international stages for two decades, working with bands such as Throes + The Shine, Holy Nothing, The Chromatics, Best Youth, We Trust, Salto, PZ, and White Haus.
Throughout his 30-year career, Nuno Mendes has performed in the most important bars and clubs in the country, both as a solo artist and in various DJ duos, including Andamento, Falsimpressions, and Corta-Fitas. In addition to his performances, he is a prolific electronic music producer, with remixes and re-edits released under various pseudonyms, such as Nightshift and Vertigo.
Over the past 20 years, he has worked in various studios in Porto, where he continues to compose, arrange, produce, record, mix, and master projects across different musical genres, such as Best Youth, Carlão, Dead Combo, Holy Nothing, Mesa, Moulinex, Orquestra Bamba Social, Peixe, PZ, Retimbrar, The Lemon Lovers, The Rite of Trio, Throes + The Shine, Vaarwell, and White Haus.
