6.8.1 Points, Lines, and Planes

Definitions

• • Point --> A singular dot

  • Line --> A straight, one-dimensional figure that goes indefinitely in both directions

  • Ray --> A portion of a line which starts at a point and goes off in a particular direction

  • Line Segment --> A part of a line that is bound by two endpoints

  • Plane --> A flat, 2-D surface that extends infinitely far in every direction

  • Congruent --> Exactly the same size and shape

    • Could be sides, angles, geometric figures, faces, etc.

  • Intersecting Lines --> Lines that meet or cross at a point

  • Perpendicular Lines --> Lines that intersect at a 90 degree angle

  • Parallel Lines --> Lines that are the same distance apart and do not intersect
