Definitions

• • Equation --> a mathematical sentence showing two expressions are equal

    • Every equation has two sides. The equal sign (=) separates the sides.

    • Examples:  4 + 6 = 10,   5 x 10 = 50,   3 + y = 12,   15 = p - 6,   etc.

  • Solution --> the answer to an equation, the value that the variable takes when solved

    • Example: 

                                        8 + y = 16

                                        8 + 8 = 16

                                        16 = 16, now that the sentence is true, we know that y = 8
