APPEARANCE jenny is rather elegantly built, with a tall, well-muscled frame and an angular face. she has dark, thick hair, deep brown eyes, and strong, expressive brows. her full lips are often pulled into a bright smile. her hands are rough from years of working on her family's ranch, and she's no stranger to farmer's tans. her wardrobe leaves little consideration for fashion; she cares far more for function, particularly when working with brahmin. she often wears wide-brimmed hats to protect her head and face from the sun, which might be the closest she gets to accessorizing. she tends to embody warmth in her physicality, from her bright, open expressions to the smile she so often wears, she isn't hard to pick out from other wastelanders. FACECLAIM tala ashe.
PERSONALITY jenny is, if nothing else, a bit of a chatterbox. she blames too many years of only brahmin for company on her innate need to socialize with everyone that comes near her. fortunately, her sweet disposition tends to win people over pretty quick. since she was a child, she's longed to venture beyond the ranch she was born on. her only dream is to travel and move through the world, rather than be a stationary piece of it. although she's pretty well-versed in the basics of survival, she's not what anyone would consider academically inclined. she can't read or write, and the only math she knows is what's needed to calculate the caps a customer owes the family business. she isn't ashamed of that fact, however, nor does she believe herself to be stupid, and she'll happily put anyone who says otherwise in their rightful place. mistaking her kind demeanor for submissiveness is always a mistake.
jenny's story is not an unusual one in the wasteland. the eldest daughter of parents roy and amina, she grew up on a remote brahmin ranch. often, her only human contact outside of her own parents were the caravaneers who stopped by to trade wares and for meat to disperse throughout the wasteland. she often says her only friends during her youngest years were the brahmin in her family's fields -- at least, until her little sister, layla, was born in 2262.
though jenny took to being a big sister like a fish to water, she often felt resentful of the extra responsibility her birth forced upon her. when she wasn't caring for layla, she was tending to the brahmin, or cleaning their shack, or helping her father butcher the members of their herd that were ready for market. the free time she once saw as the source of her loneliness was now something she missed. she regularly dreamed of escaping from home (with layla, of course) and creating a life of freedom for them, but it was only just that: a fanciful dream.
in time, she came to accept her lot in life. she had been born on her family's farm. one day, she and her sister would inherit it. with luck, they would meet husbands and have children of their own. this, she felt, was her only option.
her life changed when she was 26. her family had faced off against raiders over the years, but never had the seen such a swarm. they took pot shots at their herd, to start, killing off a quarter of their brahmin. over the span of a few days, they became more and more brazen, until they launched a full-fledged attack on the ranch. though a nearby brotherhood patrol heard the onslaught and fended off the raiders, they didn't arrive in time to save their herd. or to save layla.
at the age of 16, her baby sister was dead. stricken with grief and unable to stomach the emptiness of the ranch without her, jenny did what she'd always longed to do: she left. she never spent very long anywhere, but she often returned to the same places. one place in particular tended to draw her back. the tiny, near non-existent town of springvale held only three residents since the lone wanderer drove out the raider gang in its old elementary school: silver (who she tended to avoid) and the mother-son duo, matt and sally wells.
matt was rough around the edges, a man who openly admitted to a brief stint with the springvale raiders alongside his now-dead father. he claimed to have turned over a new leaf, and that he wanted to focus on the family he had left. like her matt had, in his way, lost a younger brother, though to the abuse of his father and his own mistakes, rather than to death. despite her better instincts, jenny liked him. she fought this feeling for years. she even hoped matt might find someone else, but he was always there in springvale, waiting, when she passed back through.
she finally agreed to stay with him in 2281. in 2286 they have their first and only child, a little girl named julia.
