NTS Hamilton Registration Form Preview

By popular demand (and by that we mean that someone suggested it and we thought it was a good idea) here is a preview of what the registration form will ask you.

Technical Package

A technical package is available at https://sites.google.com/view/nts-festival-hamilton. The technical package includes a ground plan and important parking information; please read carefully.

Note that we assign rehearsal and performance times purely based on distance from the venue - further from the venue means later rehearsal time. Performances are always in the reverse order to rehearsals - last rehearsal is first show, etc.

If you are staying in Hamilton or are a local school, our preference would be that your private adjudication take place the following day. If your play does not have a traditional script, please upload whatever material you feel will assist the adjudicator in adjudicating your play (e.g. cast list, plot outline, character descriptions, etc.) Please note that a script is preferred if available.

PLEASE NOTE: The Festival requires a Teacher Supervisor to be present AT ALL TIMES during your Tech Rehearsal and Performance, Private Adjudication, and while students are in the dressing rooms. Students WILL NOT be let in to any theatre spaces without a teacher supervisor present. The Festival WILL NOT supervise students. YOU MUST ADHERE TO THE MINIMUM SUPERVISION STANDARDS MANDATED BY YOUR BOARD.

You can use the template posted on the website, or make your own. Please ensure that your programme page is 5.5 in x 8.5 in, has the name of your school on it, has the teacher contact clearly indicated, has any information required by the rights company(s), and is either (preferably) a word .doc/.docx, or a PNG. NO JPEG OR PDF FILES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Section 5 - About your Set

Please refer to the stage plan in provided in the Technical Package for stage dimensions. Maximum loading door size is 8ft wide by 7ft high. There is no ramp access to the stage; shows will be required to provide the necessary muscle power to get your set into and out of the theatre. (Setup and strike is to/from the stage wing, so getting set into and out of the theatre does not count as part of your setup/strike time.)

You are not married to this layout, but it helps give us an idea of how big your set is for storage purposes.

Do you have any set pieces that will not fit through a 3ft x 6.5ft door? ★
Do you plan on flying any set pieces? ★

If yes, please contact the technical director at hamiltondramafest@gmail.com ASAP to discuss. The approval of flying set pieces is at the sole discretion of the technical director and will be done during your technical rehearsal time. Flying a set piece DOES NOT count as a lighting special.

Section 6 - About your Lighting

Please refer to the lighting plot and description in the technical Package for information regarding the lighting system. If you have a particular lighting instrument that you want to use (e.g. an effect light, moving light, colour changer, etc.), please bring it with you. All power is provided by standard 15A U-Ground plugs.

Will you be using any lighting specials? ★

Please note that for counting purposes, a special is defined as EITHER 1 instrument or 1 DMX channel, whichever is greater. So 1 conventional instrument plugged into a dimmer counts as 1 special, but an LED light that takes up 3 DMX channels counts as 3 specials, EVEN IF YOU ONLY ACTUALLY NEED/USE 1 CHANNEL. Options: No Lighting Specials; yes; 1 Lighting Special; Yes, 2 Lighting Specials; Yes, 3 Lighting Specials

If you answered "Yes" above, please describe what you are looking for.

Please provide as much detail as possible. For example, "A light from the front with a green gel lighting an easel downstage left." is much more useful than "A red one." We will endeavour to provide appropriate lighting instruments for all based on your description. IMPORTANT: If you want a gel, gobo (B-size only) or other lighting attachment, YOU are responsible for bringing it.

Will you require the use of one or more followspots? ★

Note that you must provide your own operator(s). The use of a followspot DOES NOT count as a lighting special. See the technical package for available colours on the followspots.

Section 7 - About your Sound

Please refer to the Technical Package for a description of the audio system.

Do you have audio cues that you want to playback through the sound system? ★

Playback connections are standard 1/8in stereo audio jacks. We recommend using either QLAB (Mac Computers) or GoButton (iPads), both from Figure|53. Both have free versions which are quite adequate for use in the Festival. Otherwise, VLC Media Player is a good option. DO NOT RELY ON THE INTERNET. BRING YOUR OWN PLAYBACK DEVICE (COMPUTER/IPAD/WHATEVER) WITH ITS POWER CABLE.

Options: Backstage, from the SR Stage Manager's Position; At the sound position; in the lighting booth; Other

Do you want to use microphones? ★

The use of microphones on stage must be carefully considered, other than for effects (voice over, off-stage, radio, etc.). Keep in mind that the setup, sound check and strike of microphones must happen DURING your setup and strike time!

Please refer to the Technical Package for a description of the video system. The house projectors ARE NOT equipped with a dowser. Using a projector DOES NOT count as a lighting special.
