Community Agreements

As we gather for the second Biennial National Tribal & Indigenous Climate Conference (NTICC) on August 29 - September 1, 2022, to be held virtually and in-person in St. Paul, Minnesota, let us remember that we are coming with our own experiences, knowledges, perspectives, and backgrounds. Therefore, it is important that we come together in a respectful manner and that we provide a safe space for everyone to participate in this Gathering.

We will do our best to integrate the following:

Respect

  • Treat each other with dignity and respect

  • Communicate in ways that honor each person’s inherent dignity and agency, including your own, and lead with respect and compassion

  • Be mindful of everyone’s time and ask questions appropriate to the context of the presentation and knowledge holder

  • Be patient and respectful about language and cultural differences

  • Respect the confidentiality of other attendees and the knowledges they share

Listening & Learning

  • Show up with an open mind and be open to learning something new

  • Listen to the experiences of others

  • Listen actively

Self-care

  • Take breaks as needed, stretch, drink water and take deep breaths

  • Be considerate of and support others’ physical, spiritual and emotional wellbeing while also taking care of yourself

Non-violence

  • Speak from personal experience

  • Share facts, experience, and feelings

  • Make space and take space – we are all here to learn and share our varied perspectives with each other

  • Discrimination, harassment or disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated

We encourage all to interact with the spirit of being a good relative and ancestor.
