Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) or kala-azar is a neglected tropical disease (NTD) with almost half of the world’s prevalent cases in India. Mathematical modelling of VL could serve as a valuable tool to support current elimination strategies in the country. In order to facilitate dissemination of knowledge and training on disease modelling, the National Disease Modelling Consortium (NDMC) at IIT Bombay has organised this workshop in collaboration with the Neglected Tropical Disease Modelling Consortium (NTDMC). This workshop will introduce modelling of NTDs using VL as a case study.
Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be:
Introduced to the transmission dynamics of VL
Able to extend their experience with translating research questions to model-answerable questions and seeing how a particular question drives model development
Able to extend their experience with the workflow of developing and applying deterministic and stochastic transmission models for NTDs
Seminar Hall, 2nd floor, Jal Vihar Guest House, IIT Bombay
