i need help as i am not sure what size i should keep the logo because i have tried 180px x 180px as well as 320px x 320px but still the instagram profile logo appears blurry when uploaded to instagram profile.

Uploaded to Instagram as JPG or PNG? - Usually Instagram only displays the profile picture (110 x 110 pixels) in a circle. However, since this is displayed larger on the desktop, 180 x 180 pixels (as you used) are recommended.

@walt.farrell I guess they convert everything they receive from the user, be it a .JPEG or a .PNG file. As we know, JPEGs can also be pretty heavy especially when saved with 100% quality. Add here some people who upload full size 30-50 megapixel images from their DSLR cameras in search of an ultimate quality of their feed. Instagram knows all these tricks and just protects own servers storage space by converting everything accordingly to their own views of what an acceptable image quality means for them.

Where are those values coming from? Seems all guides point to 320x320 as recommended but Instagram default profile picture (the grey avatar icon they use) is 340x340px and as far as i can see the profile image size they display on desktop is 150x150px, not 180x180px (profile page). Are there any official Instagram guidelines somewhere?

This is what i found in their Help Center regarding uploading photos. I didn't find any specific sizes for profile pictures there.

When you share a photo on Instagram, regardless of whether you're using Instagram for iPhone or Android, we make sure to upload it at the best quality resolution possible (up to a width of 1080 pixels).

When you share a photo that has a width between 320 and 1080 pixels, we keep that photo at its original resolution as long as the photo's aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 4:5 (a height between 566 and 1350 pixels with a width of 1080 pixels). If the aspect ratio of your photo isn't supported, it will be cropped to fit a supported ratio. If you share a photo at a lower resolution, we enlarge it to a width of 320 pixels. If you share a photo at a higher resolution, we size it down to a width of 1080 pixels.

If you want to make sure that your photo is shared with a width of 1080 pixels:

Download the most recent version of the Instagram app.

Upload a photo with a width of at least 1080 pixels with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5.

Make sure you're using a phone with a high-quality camera as different phones have cameras of varying qualities.

Yes, I noticed all guides point to these values but I'm not seeing Instagram using them (not with their default source profile image nor the size that image is then displayed in the profile page) on desktop (didn't check on mobile) thus my question...

Your Instagram profile picture is displayed as a circle, but when uploading images, you will upload square images with an aspect ratio (ratio of width to height) of 1:1. Instagram photo files are stored at 320 x 320 pixels, so your image should be at least that big. Upload JPG or PNG files to avoid possible compression or distortion.

I am having some issues with exporting image from Inkscape. I export the image as png and I put the size like they say that it should be for Instagram profile photo (I've designed a logo for my web site) and when I put the logo as a profile pic, it is still too big and I can't see the whole sign. I tried to change the size, I played with it in Gimp also and it is impossible. Just details: I have a logo and under it is a text that is the name Leahlu beauty and also under the name I have tagline Beauty by Your side. I hope someone will understand what I wrote here :)

I'm new to Illustrator, purchased to develop a logo for a project I'm working on. I managed to create what I need, but have been unable to size it properly to fit into an Instagram profile circle. I have exported and selected 110x110 for sizing (Instagram's suggested sizing), but it still does not fit in that damn circle, AND the quality of the text is impacted greatly (I get making things larger causes distortion, but thought smaller would not be an issuer?).

Then draw a circle inside it to reach the edges of the stage then put the logo inside the circle and don't get out of the circle edges so now you can remove the circle and save the image and upload it on Instagram you will see the logo in the center same as example below

The not specified thing is that instagram actually reads the center of the picture you upload: without a hidden circle pointing the software in the area to focus, it zooms automatically to the center of the picture, regardless the image size you posted (frankly, for a picture-based social network, this is CRAZY!).

Make sure to draw a circle with hidden border centered in a square and the game is done. After you uploaded your picture, you can always center your logo step by step looking on how it really fits in the instagram circle.

This 3 minute YouTube video helped me to solve this problem. The person in the video uses Photoshop, but you can also do it with Illustrator. Link to video: =HqaTU5ZKAKU

In short, what you have to do is:

1. Create an artboard of 1080 by 1080 px.

2. Create a circle within the artboard. Edge to edge.

3. Place your logo inside the circle.

4. Upload logo + the circle to Instagram. It took me a few minutes to be able to see my new profile picture. I don't know if this has something to do with the amount of pixels, but it worked. You have to group the circle with your logo, otherwise it won't work. I tried it without the circle and it failed. It worked with the circle.

Good luck

Facebook has added the ability to create a fundraiser for charitable organizations or personal causes. The cover photo for these fundraisers slightly varies from a typical Facebook cover photo, with a minimum size of 400 x 150. The best experience across many display types will come from a higher resolution image, though.
