North Tyneside
North Tyneside
North Shields Probus Club, established in 1982, bids a warm welcome to retired and semi-retired men, and aspires to deliver a broader experience to those in retirement.
Who are we?
We are a small group of retired men who currently meet once a month to have a tea/coffee together and watch an illustrated presentation by a guest presenter on a variety of subjects.
What’s in it for you?
Friendship, companionship and an opportunity to meet new people.
Maintain your mental health, broaden your knowledge and experience new things.
Participate in occasional social events, walks and visits.
When do we meet?
Every SECOND Wednesday morning of the month, 10.00 for 10.30 start and finishing around 12.00.
About the Monthly Meetings:
Meetings start off with free tea/coffee/biscuits when you can have an informal chat with other members. A formal talk, normally by a visiting speaker follows, nominally starting at 10.30 and finishing around 11.45. Topics for talks can cover a broad range of subjects and have included subjects such as local history, travel and famous people. Typical previous talks have been entitled: Tommy in the Trenches, Billy Connolly, Hidden Durham Cathedral, Northumberland Ghosts, Rise and Fall of the Great British Pub and USA National Parks.
Periodic visits, walks and social events
These are arranged occasionally and are open to guests such as spouses and partners. Visits have included the Royal Yacht Britannia, The National Mining museum and Historic buildings in Newcastle. Local Walks often include an historical theme such as Newcastle Town Walls, Jesmond Dene/Armstrong Park, Tynemouth History loop, Seaton Sluice/Hartley history/nature loop, St Bede’s Way. Social Events are also sometimes arranged e.g. a lunchtime meal. There is no obligation to attend any of these additional events although, of course, we would like members to participate.
Where do we meet?
