International days and weeks are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity. The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool. We also mark other UN observances.

A global not-for-profit established in 1919, IIE is the first private organization facilitating international exchanges. We create and implement international education programs, conduct research, and provide life-changing opportunities for students, scholars, and artists worldwide.

Managing international education exchange programs in the Western Hemisphere since its earliest days of operation, IIE has over the past 90 years opened additional offices throughout the United States and Latin America to serve this region.

On 6 December 2023, HE Judge Joan E. Donoghue, President of the International Court of Justice, delivered an address during a royal dinner hosted by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Mxima at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam in honour of the Heads of international organizations based in the Netherlands.

The Insurance Core Principles form the globally accepted framework for insurance supervision. ComFrame builds on the ICPs and focuses on the group-wide supervision of internationally active insurance groups. Together these support the protection of policyholders and promote the stability of the global financial system.

The Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) is being developed as a consolidated group-wide capital standard for internationally active insurance groups and forms the quantitative element of ComFrame. It consists of three components: valuation, qualifying capital resources, and a standard method for the ICS capital requirement.

Alexandra Semma Tamayo has worked as a forensic anthropologist at the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Villavicencio, Colombia. Her multidisciplinary approach to the identification of missing persons from enforced disappearance has helped bring justice to the families in armed conflict contexts. As an international fellow, her research in fracture patterns observed in gunshot wounds will be extremely helpful in improving the accuracy in trauma interpretation when working with human-rights violations.
