Modules: Fundamentals of Reporting; Digital Media Fundamentals
Fundamentals of Reporting is an introduction to journalistic writing. It will focus on key concepts such as generating story ideas, news angles and story structures. Students will learn interviewing techniques for various scenarios and the importance of research and fact-checking.
Digital Media Fundamentals introduces students to computer graphics and animation for the Internet. Topics include basic photography techniques to produce images for computer graphics and animation for online content. Students will learn to produce digital material such as animated web banners and graphics for social networks or websites. This module serves as a foundation for User Experience Design.
Project: Producing news features on drug abuse
Using their knowledge from 2 modules: Fundamentals of Reporting and Digital Media Fundamentals – students produced news features for CNB on drug abuse in young people aged 30 and below. This involved interviewing a CNB officer, running a poll, submitting photographs relevant to their topic, and animating one of the sidebars as a digital feature.
Module: Social Media Strategies
The module aims to equip students with a strategic framework used by industry practitioners working on social media campaigns for Fortune 500 companies. Students learn strategies to sidestep potential crises and unlock the potential of social networking platforms and innovations such as Facebook, Twitter, data mining, location-based services and regional bar camps. These will enable them to read market sentiment for products, drive advertising and PR campaigns virally, build brand loyalty, and engage users to co-create and contribute content to media owners like press and broadcast companies.
Project: Developing a social media campaign proposal to promote kindness towards migrant workers
Students developed a social media campaign proposal for Singapore Kindness Movement to promote kindness towards migrant workers in Singapore. In partnership with the Migrant Workers' Centre, the students interacted with migrant workers who were at the MOM Services Centre for renewal or collection of their work permits.
Project: Developing a social media campaign proposal to promote soap cycling
Students conducted a social media audit and their own research on the issue of soap wastage, after an introduction to Soap Cycling Singapore (SCSG) and a briefing on the project. They also participated in a soap scraping session to learn how SCSG recycles soap. They then developed four social media campaign proposals which SCSG could choose to implement, if deemed suitable.
Module: Sound Design
Students learn the basic knowledge and skills needed for capturing good sound on location in support of sound design. They also learn the different techniques employed by professional sound recordists and discover how location sound can be enhanced in audio post production via sound design. With an introduction to ProTools, students will be able to produce basic sound tracks for short films through location sound recording, sound design, editing and mixing.
Project: Developing sound bites on values
Students recorded a sound bite about a value which they chose from 25 options. The sound bite covered what the value means to them, how they recognise it in others, and how they use it in their daily lives. The sound bites will be used by Chrysalists to start conversations among youth about what these values mean to young people.
Module: Public Relations in Integrated Marketing Communications
Students are taught the appropriate Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) tools and techniques to develop, execute and evaluate a public relations-led IMC campaign for either a simulated or an actual client. Students will be guided through established research methodologies in the design, application and evaluation of an applied IMC project that has a clear public relations focus. The module also provides a more in-depth understanding of integration management principles and strategies for students to apply to other IMC scenarios, be it an advertising- or social media-led integrated campaign.
Project: Developing an integrated marketing proposal to raise awareness and visitorship
After going through an educational workshop and Lunch in the Dark at DiDsg, students were tasked to deliver an Integrated Marketing proposal to raise awareness of DiDsg and to drive visitorship. They ran an online survey, developed a report, and presented their findings and corresponding campaign ideas to DiDsg.

Students developed an Integrated Marketing Proposal for Books Beyond Borders, to further enhance its advocacy and outreach efforts.
Module: Location Production
This module is an introduction to single-camera film-style video production. This module aims to provide students with a basic theoretical and practical introduction to video production techniques and equipment, aesthetics, and planning and organizing the video production.
Project: Developing awareness videos
Students developed videos for SG Accident Help Centre (SGAHC), to be used on their website and at their events. They produced 4 videos profiling migrant workers, 1 video profiling the work of SGAHC's volunteers and 1 video profiling the centre.
