Novel Instrumentation to Anticipate Volcanic Eruptions

Feb 1, 2021 (11 am to 2 pm Eastern US)

Feb 2, 2021 (6 pm to 9 pm Eastern US)

Workshop Motivation

This workshop is open to international participants and audiences interested in cutting edge instrumentation designed to anticipate volcanic eruptions. Approaches may include but are not limited to continuous geophysical data streams, gas chemistry sensors, UAS platforms, thermal signals and imagery. The focus will be on signals that occur prior to eruption and may inform forecast models. The workshop will take place entirely online, and occur at different time windows to accommodate as much of an international audience as possible. There will be a mix of talks and posters aimed at sharing the latest developments and to encourage networking.

This workshop is hosted by the Lamont Doherty Earth Obsevatory of Columbia University and the AVERT Project (Anticipating Volcanic Eruptions in Realtime) funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
