_________________________________________________________________UPDATE FOR CLARIFICATION: Due to rampant speculation surrounding Ame's future role within Cover Corporation, I would have to repeat what Ame herself said earlier that she 'will not be joining Staff' and will remain a 'affiliate of Hololive' as she will continue to 'participate in different Hololive projects'. She is STILL a talent, as the term 'Hololive affiliate' has been used by Cover in press releases to describe their other talents. What is abundantly clear is that she will retire from what many might call 'standard' VTuber activities, like streaming & holding events.
TL;DR: She becomes an SSR talent come October. If you know, you know.
One of the most well-known people who work with Cover/Hololive for projects and also meets with Hololive talents both on stream, in some special events and in real life is the illustrator Shigure Ui, who is Oozora Subaru's outfit illustrator. If you're familiar with her, then you should already have a taste of how Ame will work in the future, the only difference being that she is a card-carrying time-travelling Hololive member and won't hold her own streams or Twitter page.
How do I even begin ... Amelia Watson of Hololive English will cease her streaming and VTuber activities effective the 30th of September 2024.
A short backstory. Please forgive my prolixity.
My first exposure to Hololive and virtual YouTubers was with the debut of Hololive English's first generation, dubbed 'Myth'. More significantly, it was a fateful September day in 2020 when the YouTube recommended video feed showed a peculiar image. Short, sassy, a tad timid, shark girl. Most important of all, she liked City Pop, a catch-all term for late 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s J-pop. It was with her performance of Tatsuro Yamashita's 'Ride on Time' on her debut stream that led me to follow her. At first I was merely testing the waters — pun intended — not minding the other VTubers while I was trying my best to ignore temptation, the temptation of becoming a fan, for I thought that my sanity would thank me for not falling down a Hell of entertainment worshipping. Nevertheless, it was a start. Gawr Gura was, for me, the proverbial trowel in the quest towards the rabbit hole.
So I kept a distance for the first few months. Before long, Hololive JP's Kiryu Coco had just departed. Touching down on an island reeling from calamity, the piegon of YouTube came in with another recommendation: have you heard of the great detective Amelia Watson? And so I accepted their offer and went to watch her. Her outfit enticed my senses, necktie and everything. She just unveiled her casual outfit, still one of my favourites among the Hololive talents, and she had quite the personality. Meek on one end, absolute monster on the other. It was not long before she started streaming VR content with her 'Smol Ame' avatar, more specifically the early 3D version. Hooked was I, and it was her that convinced to to trade in my trowel for a shovel, digging ever deeper into the hole.
Eventually, I started following the rest of Myth, then came a Minecraft Hardcore stream from Sakura Miko, a JP Gen 0 member. While she failed to kill the Ender Dragon, I felt as if I have struck gold. Finally, a VTuber I truly liked and support other than Ame, a new Oshi.
13th of August 2021. The day Miko's efforts made me change the shovel for an excavator. The day I crossed the point of no return.
Then came discovering HoloID, and the rest of JP. I've been hooked, absolutely, by the drug that is Hololive, and I would continue to take it to this very day.
If it wasn't for Ame I would've not typed all this. Trading in her necktie for a work-issued lanyard, Amelia Watson will remain forever one of my favourite VTubers for being the innovator of her branch. No wonder why she does things the 'AmeWay': First 3D streams in HoloEN, the resident tech expert, effective organizer, the one with the bright ideas and the loudest screams. Through it all, she has enjoyed a wonderful four years as a VTuber and I can hope for the best years ahead as she embarks on a new journey, to solve the greatest case, one so paramount that we'll never know when she'll ever come back as a full-time talent. Thank you very much, Ame, and I look forward to the biggest mystery being solved.
