This past weekend, the Ontario Collegiate Equestrian Association (OCEA) North Zone kicked off its 2024 season with a beautiful fall classic-themed show hosted by Trent Equestrian at Kildare Stables. The day couldn't have been more perfect, with sunny skies and a welcoming atmosphere setting the stage for an incredible day of competition.
The OCEA executive team was thoroughly impressed by the level of sportsmanship and horsemanship displayed by all participants. Riders showcased not only their competitive spirit but also their dedication to fair play, teamwork, and respect for their fellow competitors.
Congratulations to Trent Equestrian's High Point Team and Georgian College's Reserve High Point Team. Both teams delivered outstanding performances throughout the day, setting a high bar for the rest of the season.

On the Foggy Sunday of March 3, the North zone's OCEA show season reached its crescendo at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy, where teams gathered for a magical day of showing. The chosen theme for this grand finale was none other than Disney on Horse, transforming the arena into a whimsical showcase of spirited costumes and lively enthusiasm. Notably, Georgian's rendition of the 101 Dalmatian puppies was met with applause, although the Spirit Award found its way into the hands of the small yet undeniably mighty Laurentian team, who captivated the audience with their helmet decals and Stuffed horses.
At the heart of the competition was the gracious contribution of horses from the Royal Canadian Riding Academy, each one proving to be an integral part of the show's success. Amidst the sea of exceptional performances, a special acknowledgment was reserved for Dora, the Horse of the Day, whose cuteness and agility earned her the spotlight.
Trent University once again asserted its dominance by securing the High Point Team of the Day, demonstrating skill and teamwork. In a thrilling turn of events, the Laurentian Universities team emerged as the Reserve Champion, narrowly edging out their competitors by a few points, showcasing the depth of their talent.
The High Point Champion of the Day was a tie between Trent University's Victoria Beckett and York University's Kasiaya Kirkness, both exemplifying outstanding horsemanship and skill.
As the curtain fell on this captivating chapter, the anticipation for the finals has soared. The day celebrated the love for the OCEA and highlighted the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define the OCEA's horse show community. Eagerly, all eyes now turn toward the upcoming finals, where riders and teams will unite again for an unforgettable showcase of talent and passion.
In a thrilling showcase of equestrian prowess, the North zone convened in Sudbury, Ontario, where four teams competed fiercely. Hosted by Laurentian University, The atmosphere was charged with excitement as horses, generously donated for the event and affectionately dubbed as angels, became the focal point of the tournament. Against the backdrop of full-throttle team spirit, the Valentine-themed horse show witnessed impressive displays of skill and dedication. Trent University clinched the spotlight as the high-point team, leaving a lasting mark with their exceptional performance. Meanwhile, Georgian College secured the position of reserve high-point team, adding an extra layer of suspense and achievement to this standout Valentine's show in Sudbury.
On the 15th of October, the teams reconvened for Trent's Fall Classic, a highly anticipated event in the north zone calendar. Despite the sunny start, the weather took a turn as grey clouds loomed overhead, promising a wet and challenging show. Undeterred by the rain, the teams bravely navigated the course, demonstrating their resilience and determination to make the most of the day. With the invaluable support of Trent's exceptional horse donations, the event proceeded seamlessly. The North Zone riders showcased their skill and tenacity, earning well-deserved ribbons for their performances. A heartfelt congratulations is extended to the winning teams and individual riders who shone brightly amidst the rain-soaked competition. The North Zone expresses gratitude to Trent for hosting yet another outstanding show, reinforcing the camaraderie and joy that defines the OCEA circuit.
... And we're off! The 2023/24 season started with a big Giddey-Up at Georgian's Wild West Show. Plenty of new faces and returning ones were seen in the ring on October 1 at Kuruka Equestrian. The Teams set up tables and met with new and potential riders. They ended the day watching some world-class Jumping with their teammates!
