Julia Maria Aguirre is a Professor of Education at the University of Washington Tacoma. She currently directs undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs for UW Tacoma. Her scholarship focuses on culturally responsive mathematics education, teacher education, and mathematical modeling. Recent books include: The Impact of Identity in K-12 Mathematics: Rethinking Equity-Based Practices (Aguirre, Mayfield- Ingram & Martin, 2024); Cultivating Mathematical Hearts: Culturally Responsive Mathematics Teaching in Elementary Classrooms (Zavala & Aguirre, 2024).
