Northboro NST

We are a group of Northborough residents, the Neighborhood Support Team (NST), working with Ascentria Care Alliance to help an Afghan refugee family resettle in Northborough. In February we welcomed a single mother and her six-year-old son to our town.

The past year has brought many challenges and changes for our country, including the abrupt end of the war in Afghanistan and the rapid departure of American troops. The subsequent rise of the Taliban and deteriorating conditions in Afghanistan have resulted in a refugee crisis; more than 70,000 Afghan refugees are currently seeking asylum in the United States. Many evacuees aided Americans and have had to flee their homes leaving everything behind. The effort to resettle them in the United States has strained the resources of many agencies, but has also highlighted the goodwill within our communities including Northborough.

Since February, the team has helped this family settle into the community; they have an apartment and the son is attending school. This summer, the mother got her driver's license and is now working in the school district. Our goal is to raise at least $50,000 to support this family for a full year.
