The Role Model is a quirky yet disarmingly serious solo performance, shaped entirely through improvisation and grounded in Daniel Kok’s The Octopus practice—a methodology that embraces the multiplicity of one’s body, identity, and personal narrative.
In a space cluttered with handy tools and hand-shaped props, Norhaizad navigates a landscape of gestures, some offering support, others intruding, always demanding. These many “hands” become metaphors for the invisible labour of expectation.
Through humour, tenderness, and abrupt shifts in rhythm and tone, The Role Model unpacks the quiet fatigue of being everything to everyone and blurs the lines between helping hands and pushy ones. This is a dance of survival, of soft resistance, of finding space to breathe amid the choreography of roles we perform daily.
